Even with my MBP which has a fair amount of ports, I lament taking up a TB port to charge sometimes. At the same time, one cord into the external monitor is glorious.

This will be a particularly interesting product if (as predicted by some) the cheapest PC products are ht hardest by RAM and SSD prices. $600 is well above current PC/Chromebook entry-level, but if shortages wipe out the bargain-bucket options and force consumers towards slightly more expensive products...

Except... wah! No Thunderbolt!!! How am I going to connect my giant SSD RAID array and fibre channel adapter?!!!

The MacBook Neo will not work with the new Studio Display and Studio Display XDR that Apple announced yesterday because both of those are 5K displays, but it will work with affordable USB-C 4K display options from companies like LG, Dell, and Samsung.

Are we sure about that? My iPhone 15 Pro technically drives my current Studio Display at a lower resolution. (Looks kind of funny when it does it). When you plug it in, it does nothing with a Studio Display? Seems questionable.

I thought the MacRumors article here said LG and Sampson monitors are cheap and therefore the Mac Netbook could push them. That the only one it can't push is the ultra powerful Apple 5K.

4K is a number. 5K is a number. 6K is a number. The most K this MacBook can handle is 4K. Do with this information as you please.

If you need to power more than that, you're buying the wrong computer.

One external is fine, but only 60Hz is a joke. 4K 120Hz screens can be bought for pretty cheap these days.

The buyer of this will probably hook it up to a 1080p garbage monitor that will show off the ABYSMAL integer scaling of macOS.

And be perfectly fine with it much to the dismay of super serious computer users.

I think too many people in the comments don't realize that for students/college kids, this is perfect. They generally want something small to carry to class and do basic computing stuff on. It's going to get thrown around with books and get dinged up and it won't be a huge financial loss if something happens to it.

This is their opportunity to make a smaller, cheaper, 4k display that sits under the Studio Display, and pairs well not just with the MacBook Neo, but also the iMac (aesthetically).

Why? There are 4k 60Hz displays for cheap. And the real point of the output is to present on a 4k monitor or 2k projector

However, it actually does have two USB-C ports, even if one of them is USB 2. That was my main beef with the 2015-2017 MacBooks. USB 3 + headphone jack was stupid. However, USB 3 + USB 2 (+/- headphone jack) is far more functional.

Realistically, Apple positioned this pretty perfectly. It's a low-cost computer that does what's needed for a ton of people. For those who want more, Apple has the Air and the MacBook Pro.

It's actually surprising that Apple was willing to go this down-market. I suspect they view their ecosystem lock-in as a bigger money maker in the future.
