What’s the point? 20W is plenty if you don’t want deep fried battery in few years. My MBA shipped with 45W and now I regret I didn’t slow charge it because battery seems to be aging faster than I expected
I was going to suggest that the 20w charger is ideal for general charging of this computer. If you needed it to charge faster, you could find a 40W charger around for a faster charge, but most people charge laptops overnight and them with them fully charged.

No as they are designed for such events. Working abroad for 6-7 months a year a good quality multi socket surge protector was a cheap investment, worst they do is trip out. A dumb power strip will just pass on the surge to your gear...

As of 2026, I wish Apple would just include chargers with devices that charged at maximum speed. They literally charge $20 on the MacBook Air to get the 70 W charger over the 40 W to dynamic 60 W charger, why not just put full speed chargers in the box

Personal, I generally don't want to lug around the extra weight. And once I'm back at home (or work) it's plugged in to a charger which is generally charging my MBP (not a Neo) as I'm working.

I carry a tiny 35W GaN charge with my 16" MacBook Pro Max and it's just fine when I occasionally charge it.
I can run Zoom (a big power killer), with my not fully charged MBP and a not fully charged iPad Pro 13" as a second monitor, with both on full brightness and the tiny charger will power/charge the MBP and the iPad (and that was with my former 30W GaN that I liked so much I got a spare and they shipped the the 35W).

The only time I carried my 140W charger is to top off between long flights. And all my most recent flights have come with power outlets, so I'm probably going to stop carrying that.

Edit: I also throw the 140W charger in my car when camping, so I can top it off quickly at times when I have power if the campground does not.

All the people who are vehement/crazy about charging and maximizing their battery life by not rushing the charge.

I'm not one of those people. I use what ever my dock or monitor has (85W or 60W respectively).
 
I still find it very annoying when a manufacturer doesn't give concrete charging info.
Someone who owns a Neo will have to confirm this, but if they top out at 30W charging then I suspect they probably don't have USB-PD support, either.
 
Good to know. Better to use the 35W or even the new 40W charger. Don’t think that the 35W or even the 40W will have too much impact on battery health.

the lovely guys behind USB-C made it so USB-C can carry varying wattage from 15W all the way to 240W and it seems the 240W does only charging and no data transfer. now how would you know all this specs by looking at a usb-c cable

Agree on the dumb power strip recommendation. I think it’s the 50 vs 60 Hz of the current that causes the blow up, but may also be the voltage. In any case I do exactly this: Dumb power strip plugged into a plug converter.
 
Why is nobody reporting that the included charger for the M5 Max models is not sufficient anymore. Apple now is selling underrated chargers with their MBPs.
Those chargers are not underrated. They can charge those machines at full speed. The only ones that come with “underrated” are the Neo and the Air’s (they can be configured to 70W for $20)

Apple’s 240W does data. If a USB-IF compliant cable doesn’t say “charge only”, it has at least USB 2 speed, which is enough for a wide range of products.

It’s simple, the higher the charger in watts the faster the charger but the device can be a bottle neck based it’s supported charging speed. 😂

I want a MacBook Neo, but I only wanted to come with a charger that can charge it just over half the speed that it could actually charge. How dare anyone suggest that it comes with a charger that can charge it full speed.

This blows my mind
With the way things are today, with sentences like “It’s a problem taht Apple has a monopoly on the things Apple makes” being taken seriously, I wouldn’t doubt it being an attempt to avoid some charger company complaining about “No Apple user is going to buy my charger if Apple’s including the highest capacity ones in the box!!”

The perfect charger for this is the dual outlet 35W apple charger, so you can charge your phone at the same time with one brick, and get fast charge on both devices if one of them is topped off or only one device is plugged in.
 
If one looks carefully at the Apple 35 watt dual charger, it has interchange plug capability for the other four wall plug types in the world. The 20 watt unit from an iPhone included with my Neo 512 is pathetic, at best, and only useful in the US.

The Neo max charge rate has been determined to be 33 watts. So to get maxim charging on my Neo outside of the US, I am taking an Apple 70 watt unit with location adaptable plugs. I do also have many smart multi-port power bricks with changeable wall plugs and that is what I will also continue to take when traveling outside the US.

Since the world travel situation is in dynamic change, I will no longer be taking my $7,300 M4 Max MacBook Pro (128GB & 8TB SSD with nano display) when I travel outside of the US. Same goes for my M4 11" iPad Pro (2TB) with keyboard and pencil, iPhone 17 Pro Max 2TB and Apple Watch Ultra 2 . If I deem it necessary, the Neo, iPad mini v7 and iPhone 12 mini can be initialized to fresh out of the box status and thus no useful personal information would be therein. One can restore after the border crossing IF the items are returned after inspection.

Darn shame we have to think this way if one is not a billionaire on a private jet....

It's unfortunate that companies continue to get people to focus on just the watts for USB-C chargers. The watts ratings are just volts times amps for the highest combination on the charger - the question is, does the charger you want to use offer the proper volts x amps combination that gives the fastest charging on the device you want to charge. A 35W charger is not "2W better" than a 33W charger, it all comes down to what volt x amp combinations they offer.
Most of the “reputable” chargers conform to USB-PD 3.1 specs these days, so they should be able to achieve the fastest charging supported by the notebook up to the capacity of the charger itself.
 
I connect an Anker 8 port USB-C hub to my Neo "left" USB-C port when at home. There is a 10Gb ethernet cable, power in cable from the Apple 70 watt power cube, external SSD for backups cable and, when needed, the SD card from one of ny Leica cameras plugged into the hub. A larger wattage power brick allows running these external devices and the Neo itself off of one power brick while charging the Neo at it's best rate.

There is a HDMI port on the hub and an external monitor could even be connected there.

Not true. I have 240W USB-C cables that also support 40Gbps USB 4.0.

Certified USB-C cables are required to carry a logo on the connector. If you buy a cheap non-USB-IF certified cable, that's up to you. Apple being Apple never has a logo and you have trust them.

Certified USB-C cables are required to carry a logo on the connector. If you buy a cheap non-USB-IF certified cable, that's up to you. Apple being Apple never has a logo and you have trust them.

The labeling is not required for compliance certification. It’s always been optional because every company that makes cables are members of the USB-IF. In many cases, the same company’s making the same cable for a lot of different companies. Those cable makers want to be able to provide cheap solutions for some of their customers while providing high dollar solutions for Apple and others. If cables were labeled, users would be able to easily tell the difference and the cheap cables wouldn’t sell as well. So, of course, those members of the USB-IF that have an interest in the consumer not knowing, always vote to make labeling voluntary.

Of course it's required. That's the whole point of the logos because logos represent certification. It would be like saying CE logo is not required for compliance. You have it completely backwards. The companies who pay to be part of USB-IF want a trademarked logo to separate themselves from non-members.

"In order to pass through the USB-IF Compliance Program, all USB-C® to USB-C cables categories must be labelled with either a power capability of 60W or 240W by using the appropriate power icon and/or logo. I know there are “compromises” at the $599 price point but I can live with them.
And importantly, I *THINK* the 20 watt power supply is enough to run the thing at full blast.

What happens with that 35 watt PSU if you're running a Macbook Neo or Air AND like an iPad or iPhone at the same time? I mean I know it divies up power somehow or other but I'm not sure if it's smart enough to if the ipad is done charging, it diverts almost everything to the Macbook or vice versa? Or ideally I'd want it to slow charging to a trickle on the device that's not being used, even if it's near empty, and dump all the power into the other device...but I'm not sure that's how it works. In fact I'm not sure if you plug two higher power devices into it simultaneously if it EVER gives them more than 17-18 watts.

I wish I understood how that works better.

I've got two of those things though to plug in multiple batteries and my Apple watch and stuff! Charging some headphones with an old 5 watt iPhone PSU, because that's FINE for my uses even if it presumably takes longer.

I bought the Anker Nano 45w with the digital read out and it shows about 32w of input. I charge it overnight so don't know how long it takes.
