So, I used to be semi active here back in 2014… a little odd looking at my posts from the time, I was only 18 haha. I’m 30 now… I had a MacBook to make music on. life went on, I moved from mac to pc, windows to linux. I really liked how similar linux often felt compared to os X, both in the console and with certain window managers.

I moved initially back to windows in 2018 or so because of the increased ability to play games. I moved to linux because of the relatively new ability to play windows games on linux. But I dearly missed logic pro. I went from logic pro to reaper, just horrifying stuff. So now I’m coming back, because of that and something else.

I’ve seen now there have been recent strides with programs such as crossover to play windows games on a mac. I know the Neo is no gaming powerhouse, but to play some older windows games on a mac is a wish come true. And it really makes me excited to come back. And also despite what people say about linux being secure, I can’t help but feel more secure in apples walled garden.

I got an iPad for christmas, but I’ve just re sold it to put the money towards a Neo. And I’m also going to sell my Lenovo ideapad 3.

Linux is awesome but I’d rather mess with it in a VM.

In the age of microslop and so so many bad actors, Apple made one of the best decisions pre or post jobs by offering this laptop at such a great price point imo. People aren’t even sure if hardware will be affordable in the near future and Apple is handing it out like candy, and in turn bringing people into the ecosystem.

Keep an eye on reviews of how well the software you'd plan to be using runs on the Neo…and what features are crippled.
After a bit of research I decided on a mini m4, and I’m not going to wait for m5 as I’m pretty sure the price is gonna go up a bit. Was pretty much the exact price of the base neo, and I was just going to be docking the Neo to a big monitor anyways. Logic Pro and light gaming are all I care about.

I'd imagine the Asahi Linux team will quickly get Linux running on the Neo so you will be able to go back to Arch Linux on the Neo.
