I just received a new macbook 2.0 ghz 1 gig of ram, and every time I open or close it the hard drive makes some odd noises. I also just put a CD in it for the first time and it seems to be vibrating and making an awful lot of noise. Are these things normal or should I go to apple.

When my MacBook Pro wakes from sleep, including when the lid is opened or closed, it makes a couple of little "zip zip" noises. Normal.

The shaking from a DVD is most likely a small imbalance in the disk, which spins up pretty fast. Make sure there aren't any stickers or labels on any part of that disk. Also, put other disks, CDs and DVDs, and see if the thing still shakes abnormally. If not, chalk it up to a defective disk.

Yeah, that noise is like a little "zip" noise.
OK, thanks for the info, I feel a lot better now.

Those annoying squeaky noises are the DVD drive checking for disks. I haven't found out how to disable it yet, but yeah, it's not something to worry about.
