So I have a MacBook White Unibody from 2006 (with 2GB RAM and 250GB Hdd) and it suddenly stopped charging. I thought no big deal, just replace the charger. Then I tested it out on my MacBook Black and it was working perfectly. I then proceeded to replace the magsafe port. This did not help at all.
I am taking the machine in to Apple for them to have a look but I was just curious to know what anybody thinks could be the problem. The MacBook has not been dropped or had liquid damage and has had a really peaceful life and I am just sad to see it die before my 2007 MacBook which has stood the test of time amazingly well.

(I have tried resetting the SMC to no avail)

The 3 primary components of the charging system are the MagSafe adapter, the battery and the logic board. It's a process of elimination to determine which is the culprit. Apple can diagnose the problem and tell you what's wrong.

This should answer most, if not all, of your battery/charging questions:

Say if it's the battery, would the laptop still power up?
The laptop powers up on the last remaining juice from the battery but it just doesn't charge.

I hope it is this... Would there be any way to test this? Would removing the battery and trying to boot it show this?

No, just let Apple run tests and they can tell you exactly what's wrong.

Have you ever replaced the battery in the mb? It's highly likely you just need a new battery. Getting 5-6 years out of one is pretty impressive, considering I only got 2 years out of my 2006 mbp's battery - I had to replace it twice.

At 5% health, it's pretty much toast.

I dont know if I want to though... The battery of this computer is £109 from the Apple online store...A lot!
I'm saving up for a MBA so I think I'll just save the money...
