Perhaps a little more info is needed to provide you with real suggestions.

What type of hub (brand) and is it self powered or has a power supply?
What type of external drives? Are the USB cables actually USB3 or USB2?
    etc.....

its an anker 7.0 hub with power supply.
the harddrive is usb 3.0 powered bus - samsung p3 (seagate) which is a 2tb, i have partitioned them to 1tb each, it loads the one which is empy quite quickly
the other is full around 900gb and has my itunes library. im thinking of moving my itunes library back to the main ssd on the macbook pro as its kind of annoying when it doesnt load and to be honest its kind of slow too from the external drive.. nto sure if there is a way to speeden this up

    thanks
