    Hello All:

I just got back from our local Apple Store, having spent a lot of time playing with the new MacBooks. I like the solid polycarb feel of it and a lot of things about it. I've also appreciated reading all the interesting stuff about them on Mac Rumors!

However, I'm wondering specifically and only about the new keyboard design. Sort of more like a hand-held calculator keypad than what i'm used to on any laptop or desktop keyboard setup.

My initial impression is that it's a lot firmer than the old iBooks' keyboards, which had that trampoline-like quality to them. But I don't know if I could ever get used to the spaced-out keys, so to speak.

Folks that own the new MacBook, what do you think? Do you like the new keyboard design & has it taken time to get used to?

B.G., who will likely be keeping his PB G4 12" for a while.

I like the feel. It took me 2-3 days to get used to, and it just goes so much faster. It's also ncie with space between the keys. You don't type wrong as often as on other laptop keyboards. It also makes the 'Book look a lot cooler, and is in general a slick design feature. SWISH!:D

EDIT: Also the fact that the keyboard is lowered minimizes the risk of scratching the screen.

Today is the first day me using mine, and it feels like the keys are spaced out like they would be on a normal dekstop keyboard. And I can fly on it. i like the chunky-ness of the Powerbook/MacBookPro's keyboards.. but this is def cool

Josias, that's really good to hear! I bought my current 12" PB because of the keyboard (much better to me than the old iBooks.) However, I also -love- the polycarb feel of the new MacBooks more than the metal-feel of the PB/MB Pros. Just definitely something cool about them!

But like you said & from what others are saying, it takes some getting used to, but not long. After that, it sounds like a really cool new design feature. I think I'll have to mosey on over to the Apple Store during lunch today and do some more "research." :D

I think it takes time to get used to any new laptop keyboard this MBP is my first Mac laptop and coming from a dell this took me 3 or so days to get used to but now I have no problems and find it to be one of the easiest keyboard that I have ever typed on.

I talked about this in another thread, but what the heck.

I'm 90 percent comfortable with the keyboard. This is my first Apple laptop, so I have no basis for comparison other than the standard desktop keyboard and the keyboards of the new Dells we just got at work last week.

My only complaint is that in sports, with all the stats and numbers, I 10-key a lot so I may invest in a USB 10-key pad.

I actually love the keyboard so much I wish Apple would release something similar for desktops.
