In closing, I'll part with a metaphor too. The MacBook is a Toyota and the MacBook Pro is a Ferrari. Sure, if you're just driving down the highway they'll both get you there, but the Ferrari can go 150 when you need it to, and it has a lot of little extras that help make up for the cost difference.

If the MacBook is a Toyota it's going to be a very quick one because it's got the same engine in it as that Ferrari.

Yes, they have the same CPU and RAM, but computer is so much more than just CPU and RAM!

Benefits of MBP over MB:

- screen
- GPU
- backlight keyboard
- FW800
- ExpressCard
- Aluminium casing
- (arguably) doesn't feel cheap.

Benefits of MB over MBP:

- Better keyboard
- Smaller
- Lighter
- Near enough half the price
- Nicer to look at
- Not a 5-year-old design

I disagree with some of these points :) For example MB weights 2.2 kg, while MBP is only 300 grams more. And IMO, MBP looks much better, but again, its only my opinion.

You forgot:

- Made of plastic, so it doesn't dent like the aluminum on the MBP. To me, that's the most important thing and the reason I bought a MB.

Yep, and this is the reason (along with the fact that aluminium is more expensive than plastic) why I don't think we'll be seeing an aluminium MacBook any time soon.

I've taken really good care of my Powerbook and so it's not dented, but I see how easily it could happen. I'm happy to replace it with something like a MB when the time comes.

wow that ferrari comment was so wrong. They are different creatures, if you dont need the gpu/expresscard/fw800 for your life, then get the mb. I had a pro and I sold it

If you're like me and your laptop goes everywhere with you and gets used everyday on trains, buses, etc., accidents happen. I've wished for years that Apple would make a plastic Pro machine, but they seem to think it's not necessary. I'd be first in line if they ever did.
