Macbook owners: heat question

Mine gets REALLY hot from normal use. As in surfing etc. It doesnt bother me though, because I'm usually not using it while naked.

Those complaining about heat are cry babies who would also complain about the milk in their bottles being too hot as well. Considering the chip inside the MacBook it gets no hotter than would be expected. I've used mine on my lap and I'm still walking. Think about it, if it got as hot as some people claimed then it would probably start melting.

Try that with a MBP and let me know how it works out for ya. I have burnt my self, pretty bad actually with the MBP 15". My 17" MBP doesn't get as hot thank god.

the heat on mine doesnt bother me at all, i use mine usually sitting on a desk or table. If i use it while sitting on the couch i put a throw pillow under it. I did go look at a different laptop (sony i think) that used the same chipset and it was just as hot as the macbook. i was concerned when i first got it. no more.

But I don't think you will have anything too much to worry about since many reports are suggesting the ones out at the moment mostly run warm. Also, if you're so unlucky to get one of the hot ones where it runs 71-73*C (mine) on ~75% idle and 82*C before the fan kicks in, Apple has acknowledged the heat problems and will replace the main logic board under warranty. .

Seriously? I can call up AppleCare, explain how hot my Macbooks are running, and they'll replace them with cooler ones?!

download the firmware update

a colleague of mine has a macbook pro 15 inch. it was running very hot but after he installed the firmware update, it was much cooler. of course it was still warm...all laptops get a little warm, but it was not nearly as hot as it was before.

I called Apple already and they have said to me that the problem is NOT Apple's fault and running hot is considered in specification. Only time when it isnt is when the CPU runs above 100 degrees Celcius.

Allow me to correct myself, I confused the whine w/ the heat issue. But many that had their whine problem fixed tend to conform to a cooler laptop.

Mine gets warm. I wouldn't say hot, but warm, yeah.

Most laptops made in the last five years shouldn't be on your lap anyway

It's actually kind of funny to hear all the whiners complaining this is a huge issue – my old iBook G4 is noticeably warmer to the touch than my MacBook has ever been.

The keyboard is one of my favorite features. The keys go down easily, and they pop up nicely. At first the spacing was a little of an issue, but I realized that was more due to the way I typed. Now, I've adjusted. I can honestly say that I don't miss my old keyboards at all. I like the way the MacBook keyboard feels. I hope they change the Pro line to match in case I upgrade sometime in the future.

I agree with getting used to it, took me about a day or so
I noticed it got hot after regular use, but like everyone else says, "Not that hot"

I'm getting a Macbook soon and I'm not really concerned with heat issues since I've used tons of Windows notebooks that run real hot, so it won't be anything new to me

Unfortunetly, my own Macbook began the dreaded 'random shutdown' thing. (My wife's is still fine, and has always run considerably cooler by at least 15 degrees F)

Thankfully, my local Apple store took it right in for repair. In the meantime, I've gone back to my Powerbook. (Hopefully my repaired Macbook will run as cool as my wife's does!!!)
