So I have been thinking the new Macbook would make a great in the field device for backing up photos as well as doing some light edits with Lightroom.

Anyone been using Lightroom on the new Macbook? If so how do you like the performance?

    Thanks in advance, Scott

Yup, and it works great (RAW editing). However, I still haven't connected it to an external monitor, so I don't know if it will handle that well.

It's definitely usable, but don't expect the world. It handles 16MP RAW files from my X100T well enough, but takes a while to generate previews and can be a little slow to render 100% after a few edits.

The screen is fantastic though and makes it much easier to get accurate results. Blows the 11" MBA away.

The screen size is pushing it for me, YMMV. I did a comparative test a while back on two tasks that are admittedly among the slower LR file ops The rMB was slower but a lot less than people who haven't used the machine would like to tell you.
