I am trying to do a clean install of OSX. I have the original install disk that came with the system. I hold down the "c" button so it boots to the install disk.

The screen just sits at the gray apple logo for over 20 minutes. I hear the disk reading every few minutes, but it still sits at that screen.

The disk is perfect, no scratches or blemish's. What could be the issue and how can I get this thing to boot?

It could be a disc drive issue. It takes a while to boot to a disc. You know that, right? Insert the disc, boot off the disc, and then let it sit a while (maybe 45min).

I know it can take awhile, but I didn't know it would take 45 min.

I have the new 10.6.6 disk from my new MBP 2011. For curiosity sake, I put in that disk and it booted up within 3 minutes and I got to the first install screen.
