Got free non-working MacBook 13" 2011 vintage 8GB, I5 cpu.

Internal KEYBOARD and TRACKPAD DO NOT WORK. (even in diag mode)

Will not start unless i remove rear cover and DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, wait 10 seconds
RECONNECT BATTERY. Now it will start. (power adapter connected and green color indicator)

Unit 100% good mac, changed disk to SSD, and loaded High Sierra on it. works great
but again no trackpad or keyboard functionality and will not start once I do a SHUTDOWN or hold POWER to SHUTDOWN.

Been using USB MOUSE and USB keyboard.

Not software as I reloaded High Sierra clean erased ssd.

I "think" the keyboard is ok because I depress the power button to start the machine and it responds.

I have a spare new keyboard. I think it is not a keyboard issue but if you tell me to install the replacement, I will.

I cannot speculate on why I must disconnect the battery to START the machine.

Help appreciated.

oh yes tried resetting SMC AND PRAM several time.

oh yes first time I had to charge the battery for 6 hours. Battery is good and usable for 2+ hours, maybe longer.
i do not believe any of this is a battery issue.

Is it a Macbook Air? If I were to guess, I'd guess some kind of cable attachment issue first. Gosh if you have a spare keyboard just put it in and see what happens lol.

Edit: if it is a Macbook Air, you're in the wrong forum. This is for Macbook, i.e., 12" macbooks, and I think the older white plastic macbooks. There's another section for the Air.

Still stuck. Will try spare keyboard today. Is macbookPro (not Air) 2011 silver aluminum case. Will update. Thanks for the thoughts.
