Hello everyone!

I am using the Macbook Pro late 2016 (first refreshed Model) with 2,9 Ghz i5 and 8GB RAM since it was released in 2016.
Now that time went by and apps like the Adobe CC collection are consuming more and more power I wanted to switch to something better and more powerful. So I bought the new 2019 16inch Macbook Pro with the basic configuration. After a few days of playing around and testing this massive powerhouse I've just printed out the return label. Why? Because it is way to heavy and large for carrying it around. It doesn't fit my normal bags and it seems to me not very practical as a daily driver on the go. Even it has massive power - it has a bad portability.

As I am returning this thing I am looking for something else. While looking at apple.com I found the new 2019 13inch Macbook Pro. In my opinion apple messed up the whole "Pro"-Lineup but anyway - I would like to go for the Macbook Pro 13inch BTO 2,4 Ghz with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Is here anyone who can recommend this thing to me? I can't find any articles or tests about (this) 13inch BTO.

What to you think? Is this a good choice?

Thank you!

All the best
Noel

Bad time to get the 13” MBP unless you absolutely need it now. A refreshed 13 or possibly 14 is due shortly According to the rumor mill.

The current 13” has the faulty butterfly keyboard. Don’t buy one.

Hm, thats a good point. But will it really make such an impact on the old ones? And the other question is: Due to corona - when in 2020 will apple launch the new models?

I got the 2016inch MBP and it was repaired by apple two times. So if it's the butterfly mechanism 3rd generation I am absolutely ok with that. I like to type on my current MBP :)

The 16” has a more reliable scissor keyboard. The butterfly keyboard has less travel and Apple has no replacement parts to solve the reliability issues- they will keep using the same faulty parts every time. Edit: I think you mean you have a 2016 MBP. The 2019 might be somewhat more reliable than that, but the problems still aren’t fixed.

At the moment I am still using my MBP 13" from late 2016 with butterfly keyboard (which got repaired) and I am perfectly fine with the keyboard. I don't get the discussion around this keyboard at all. It works good since it got repaired.

So that is not a thing for me to wait vor 2020 MBP just beacause of the keyboard. It would be more for the processor and maybe other features...

The bigger issue then is that the computer is really 2018 technology and due for a refresh.

Hold off unless you absolutely need the device.

Hm, that is a good point. Buying a "2018-tech" MBP in 2020. The question is: Will Apple put the refreshed MBPs on the market before Q3? And will the tech be that much better in numbers and maybe in relation to a higher price?

Based on what we're seeing from Apple on the hardware front, prices don't appear to be going up. I would be surprised if the MacBook Pro 13" wasn't announced at WWDC at the latest.

Ok, which would mean that it could be delivered at the end of june, right? 🙃
