I just bought the new Macbook pro 13 inch from 2019, and it seems to be running much hotter than the 2018 one, with the exact same specs. I had the Touch Bar base version from 2018, and this is the same one just from 2019. It's running really hot, and I can't figure out why. Is It normal, or should I exchange it for a new one?

it is just because it is new and indexing, it will take a few weeks to function as normal :) which model?

If you literally just bought it then it is probably still indexing and do all of the first time setup stuff. Are you restoring a Time Machine backup or installing a lot of programs?

I'd give it a day or two at least before judging. (maybe you already are on day two though? - unsure)

Weeks for indexing?!
how long have you had it?

Eh it will take an hour at maximum.
that's not my experience at all, not just for indexing but just the new laptop updating, etc... my last one took about a week or so and ran warm.. now cool... hearing the same thing from colleagues..

Pretty bad algorithm then if it takes a week to index. You can check activity monitor and look for 'mdworker'. If it's not taking much CPU power it's not indexing.

Mine are usually done with 15 mins of indexing after a fresh install or Time Machine backup, talking about ~500GB here so nothing major.

It is not only indexing. If you have many photos than syncing can take a while (few days in my case), then face recognition and similar stuff - a week easily.

Exactly, I have 15,000 photos etc. hence a week or more - not unusual before a computer returns to normal.

Thanks, I think it's just the indexing and downloading stuff from iCloud, I have a lot of GB stored there.

@kp98077 it's the 2019 base 13 inch model with 8gb of ram and 256gb SSD.
