Since the context of this is on the consumer level (after it leaves the factory) and has no affect on performance, I don't see where 'unsupported' is any kind of issue. It makes it not even part of the conversation.

I had this conversation with my girlfriend. I ordered the 15" MBP and she was deciding between the Macbook or 13" MBP.

She ended up going with the Macbook and couldn't be happier.

I guess it comes down to what you plan on doing with it. Do you actually use firewire 800? Do you use SD cards all the time? (even if you do, most cameras, etc. allow you to plug it in the usb port) Do you need a backlit keyboard? How important is the aluminum case vs the polycarbonate one? You like like a hyper glossy screen (mbp)?

Which one do you think looks better?

TBH, you can't go wrong with either one. They are both nice, they are both comparable price (MBP is $150 more with student discount, not sure without it). The differences between the two are primarily subjective. It's all about what YOU prefer.

The difference between the 13" and 15" MBP are more tangible. There is a significant processor and graphics card boost. It is a larger screen, you have options to get high res and antiglare, etc. These may take a bit more of a logical calculation to determine which would suit your needs better. However between the macbook and 13" macbook pro, it really comes down to which one you subjectively prefer.

IE: if you really like the aluminum case and backlit keyboard - spend the extra money. If you want firewire 800 - spend the extra money. If you don't care about all that stuff - save the money.

I got the late 2009 MBP 13" with 4GB of RAM. These are the main reasons I chose the MBP over the MB:

•It looked a hellava'-lot-nicer :D

•The backlit keyboard - Its useful everyday for me!

•Way stronger. I've seen a lot of MacBooks (including my old one) get cracks in em' from normal wear and tear.

•Not sure if it is, but it seems lighter and thinner than the MBs.

•You can brag you have a MacBook PRO :D

If you are near a microcenter.com outlet they have been running a special on the 2010 base model 13" MBP for only $999, the same price they are selling the 2010 MB. This makes the decision easier since you get 2x the ram plus ll the little perks and added value when the time comes to sell it - all for the same price as a MB!!! A few months ago their Mac special was a late 2009 MacBook for only $799. The deal is for pickup only since I think the idea is to get you into the store and buy other cool stuff.

I bought a MB from Microcenter three months ago for $799 and was very satisfied with the MB and price but this deal of a MBP for $999 is just too good to pass up. I sold my MB on ebay yesterday for close to what I paid for it and will be replacing it with a base MBP from them. Sadly, they just ran out of stock in my local NJ store (and Amazon is out of stock as well). When the supply is replenished I will be picking up one. Also, since my Microcenter store is in a war zone in NJ they actually charge 1/2 the normal tax rate to get business.
