Macbook Pro 14”, 16” silver or grey ? For those who struggle..

I made some photos from our Apple premium shop.
I bought 16” in silver without hesitation but when I was in shop, I was surprised thet 14” looks great, especially in space grey which I never liked.

Space Grey did admittedly look good in person to me - far better than the "dirty aluminum" I called it before. Silver is still superior though, IMO.

As for 14" vs. 16"? Can't decide for the life of me. I think the proportions and ergonomics and size and weight are all superior on the 14", but that damn massive screen on the 16" makes it very hard to resist.

The last photo of the silver is why I would pick it. Looks beautiful. However, the logo contrasts better in Space Grey, more muted than the stark contrast in Silver.

I started with Silver 2011 MBP, had the 13" 2016 in Space Grey, and I loved that color, and now have the 2017 MBA in Silver. But I think I might just pick the Silver one more time because of that last shot.

Closed, the Space Grey looks beautiful. I will have a tough time choosing the color.

Think I like the silver this time. It contrasts so well with the keyboard and the screen seems to “pop” a little more. This whole redesign reminds me so much of my first MacBook Pro too, which was silver. Space Grey blends more, so depends on your preference. I enjoy “pop” Tho. I may have to go to the Apple Store and see in person!

Went with Silver for mine.
Something about the timeless color makes me always gravitate towards it.

I'm going silver for the durability, but I think space gray looks better especially on the massive 16" model.

I keep my laptops for a long time though and have seen a few reports of the space gray anodization wearing off, so I'm going to stay away.

If you keep your laptop for like 1-4 years you're prob fine though.

Are you going to stick with the 16"? Does the weight in your lap feel annoying compared to older 16" models?

I'm sooooo torn on which to get.

Just to add to paranoia, the silver macbooks I've had would gradually form darker areas on the touchpoints despite frequent cleaning, so basically pick your poison haha. I ordered a space gray but if they weren't so hard to get in custom configs I would be considering swapping for a silver instead based on these (and other) photos ?

Personally, I think this new design looks best in Space Gray - it's slimming and adds a bit of sleekness to the bulkier shape. Also, based on the ones I've seen in person, the shade of Space Gray with this generation of MacBook Pro's is a bit lighter in tone (compared to my other generation Macs).

Agree. In the Apple store with a lot of sunlight, the massive surface of the 16" with silver was soooo reflective and shiny too.

But oh well, I'll deal with it.

Guys, you are right. The space grey was lighter and silver was actually sooo white that I did not like it. But I think it was due to the light in store which was too bright.
I have to check my 16”

I went with the 16” in space grey. Now that Apple changed the keyboard to all black and with the bezels being black, I thought that the contrast worked better with the space grey. I know that @nquinn mentioned reports of the anodization wearing off, but I always use a skin on my Macs—front, back and palm rest to preserve the color and to prevent the odd staining.

so not only do we have size issues, we have color issues now - LOL I think the silver looks great! Timeless... except if its 16, SG is best as it is more sliming... 14, silver for sure!!

Bought this laptop in silver - looks nice with a high contrast aesthetic when opened up. Everything about the design looks better than the product shots in my opinion. Have a 2019 space gray MacBook Pro 16in from work to compare against and I'd say there's pros and cons to both designs.

Base model that I picked up in-store. It's for personal use (some documents, photography as a hobby, some video editing, lots of web browsing, and some TVs) and I no longer play video games so should be plenty well spec'd and I can always upgrade down the line without losing too much money. 1 TB of storage would've been nice for photos but I already have most of my photos sitting on external SSDs so I think I will just keep doing that.

Ah 14in. 14in is a good size, not too far off from a 13in MacBook Pro and still manageable. My 16in work machine is a beast to the point where it sits attached to a monitor 90% of the time.
