I'm surprised by how much the whole space grey v silver issue has been on my mind since buying a 14 in space grey a few weeks ago.

I usually go with SG, so I didn't think much about it (and after several MBPs in space grey, I've not had any chipping or fading). But since purchasing the 14, I keep seeing silver models out and about or on YouTube and thinking damn that looks good!

I think the earlier poster, Patcel, put their finger on it: it may have something to do with the design being a throwback to the earlier Titanium G4 design, which was a combo of silver and white.

Either way, it's harder than ever to decide on color. I love my 14 in space grey. But now I'm constantly second guessing my choice.
Don’t second guess! They really look great in either shade. Enjoy it!

For people who have a Macbook 14 "in silver. Do you think that the color silver is too contrasting and prevents you from concentrating on the display? In the apple store, the light is very strong and I do not know whether the color contrasts just because of that.
what a load of rubbish mate
I've always picked silver and it has never been an issue.

I went from space gray to silver. No issues here at all. It's obviously a different color, but that's it.

I do not understand. can you explain that to me ?

I have a silver MBP myself, and ever since I got it I have not been able to concentrate on my work adequately. Something just doesn’t sit right visually. When I had a Space Grey MBP it used to just blend in with my dark grey “midnight” desk.

I can’t help but think that space grey would work better for me and I wonder how did people manage to work with all the colourful iMacs in 1998 and now this year’s iMacs too. The old candy iBook makes me wonder, too, as to how did people manage to concentrate on the display on those computers.

Oh maan, so already we had people complaining about palmrest edges cutting wrists, 3.5 pounds being extremly heavy and now color is too distracting. I wonder what will be next.

You kinda answered your own question. It's all about the setting. It's easy for the silver and white laptops to blend in when you have a white desk and white walls (as I do). I find the light colored computers to be the best for me. I guess I could complain about their black bezels and keyboard :) but there's really nothing distracting about them either, it's quite nice to have a bit of contrast. YMMV.

I never found silver distracting on any of the Macs I've used. For my 14-inch I decided to go with Space Gray just to get something different, even though I know it won't hold up against regular wear and tear as well as silver. But, I am using my computer as a desktop replacement 90% of the time, so it shouldn't get worn down too quickly.

You likely missed my implied /s in the post.

I have zero issues whatsoever with my Silver - neither with the bezels, nor with its contrast as against my midnight coloured desk, nor against anything else for the matter. I look at the 0.5-0.7 mm thick aluminium sheet at the edge of the bezels and I love the tech that made this design possible. It is a machine, I use it to make money.

Now, that said, I will neither confirm nor deny any allegation/ insinuation with regards to the 'then why'..

One day, it will be argued that the entire computer itself is a distraction from something else.

Every time I want to work on my MacBook, I have to apply force to the lid and open it up first. That gets me so distracted and I don't understand how they could not fix that this generation, I think I'll return it. ?

I knew Apple wants people to get fit by using their Watch, I did not know they started triggering it through their MacBooks. I cannot believe they would make people pay for these computers to insult their health this way. Bad Apple!
