Hi all. I thought I'd share with you the best possible prices I could find on the 15" and 17" Macbook Pros. I've seen a lot of posts on matte vs glossy, 15" vs 17", i5 vs i7, etc., but I haven't seen too many posts comparing pricing.

These prices are either from MacMall or MacConnection, and they include all possible discounts/rebates I could find. Prices at the Apple Store, even with an educational discount, are going to be higher because of tax.

    Core i5 2.4 GHz 15" low-res glossy: $1627
    Core i5 2.4 GHz 15" high-res glossy: $1819
    Core i5 2.4 GHz 15" high-res matte: $1862

    Core i5 2.53 GHz 15" low-res glossy: $1752
    Core i5 2.53 GHz 15" high-res glossy: $2036
    Core i5 2.53 GHz 15" high-res matte: $2056

    Core i7 2.66 GHz 15" low-res glossy: $1918
    Core i7 2.66 GHz 15" high-res glossy: $2181
    Core i7 2.66 GHz 15" high-res matte: $2231

    Core i5 2.53 GHz 17" high-res glossy: $1996
    Core i5 2.53 GHz 17" high-res matte: $2278

If you're willing to buy from a reseller rather than the Apple store, you can get a great deal on the base models. The BTO models however are much more expensive because there are no rebates.

This means that the price difference between a low-res and high-res model isn't $100, as I've seen quoted in other threads. In the best case scenario, you're looking at nearly $200 extra for the high-res glossy -- and even more for the antiglare. In the worst case scenario, it's over $300 extra for the high-res antiglare display.

Personally, I decided on the base 17" model because I wanted a high-resolution screen and I don't mind the extra size. I would probably prefer a high-resolution antiglare 15" model, but I can't justify spending $200-$300 to upgrade the display when I could spend a similar amount for the 17" and get a high-res display plus more vram and processor speed.
