Suddenly my left speaker has blown out! I woke up my mac and wanted to listen to spotify but i noticed my left speaker had almost no sound. I checked it and it seems to be blown out suddenly? i got this macbook for like 2 months.

will apple warranty cover this hardware problem?
 
I lost both speakers on my early 2015. It was under warranty and it was repaired for free under warranty.

Is your computer still under warranty?
 
I made a call appointment for tomorrow morning. Hope they they dont say it doesnt go under warrenty

Same thing happened to my 13”MBPT last night - but now the left speaker (only) sounds distorted and crackles whenever you play anything..... not sure exactly what’s going on, quite random as I hardly ever use the sound to it’s maximim. I’ve had the laptop only 4 months....

I’ve booked an genius bar appointment, let’s see what they have to say.

You didn't answer the question whether the computer still under its 1 year warranty or 3 year AppleCare warranty. That's probably going to determine whether or not they cover it. Out off warranty you're probably stuck.

Ah ****, keep me updated about what they said. I have an appointment at an apple retailer cause Apple store here in Amsterdam is booked full.

I have my MBP for 2 months, so its still under 1 year warranty. I didn't get the Applecare+ but I still can because its possible to buy an applecare+ after 3 months
 
I went to the Apple Store today and confirmed this is a hardware fault.

They've advised me they will be replacing the Top Case with Battery (don't have a clue what that is, but apparently the speakers are attached to this unit). They didn't have that particular part in stock, so they're ordering it in and then they'll give me a call for when to bring my laptop in for repair. Been advised the repairs will take around 3-5 days until I get my laptop back from the day of drop-off.

Happy the costs will be covered via the warranty, but not too happy that I'm 4 months in since purchasing the high spec model (i7, 16GB RAM) and I need repairs done to it already....

Good! My early 2015 rMBP was repaired in three or four days total. I dropped it off at an Apple Store on a Friday. They shipped it overnight to some central facility where it was repaired in one day, then shipped to me directly overnight and was delivered on Monday. That seemed like great service, though obviously you'd prefer not to need service at all. I hope your experience is as good and as prompt.
 
It's under warranty.
Take it back and get it replaced.

Good to hear it's been taking care of! As you said, its really ****ed up to already bring it into the apple store to repair it. I'm hesitating to buy the 350 euros applecare+ if things like this gonna happen a lot more in the future.
 
So I just got back from the Apple store Amsterdam. They took my MBP to the back and came back telling me they ordered the top case for me and they will repair it in 3 to 5 working days. They were super chill about it and I told them if it happens again what then? they said then I didn't have to wait for an appointment and bring it back to check it an repair it again.

Likewise, just dropped the laptop off - they'll replace the top case and should be ready for collection in 3-5 days.
Hopefully this should fix the issue, give us a shout how your repair goes.
 
Odd. There were reports of 2016 models having their speakers blown in Windows early on because of bad Boot Camp drivers, but that was fixed.

You should have a 2-year warranty in the Netherlands correct?

No we only have 1 year warranty from apple
 
"UPDATE"

Last night I got a mail saying my MacBook was ready and I could pick it up, even I dropped it the day before. They fixed it in one day! I'm just got back from the apple store and they replaced the whole top case including the battery and keyboard.

Normally it would cost 425 euros to fix this problem but thank god for apple's warranty.

Hope I don't have to bring it back anymore!!!
 
This exact issue happened to me, I opened the lid to wake my 15” MacBook Pro 2017 from sleep. A burst of electric zapping came from the speaker. I knew it was busted. I’ve had this computer for less than two weeks.

I used the audio midi utility to test and the right side was obviously muffled and distorted. So I set up my Genius Bar appointment.

They confirmed the issue. And their offer to me was to send in for repairs 3-5 days. Even though I brought up that this issue happened within 14 days.

Considering just going back to my 2011 MacBook Pro which has almost never had an issue. Sitting outside of the Apple store feeling let down.

Update 07/2018
Everything was repaired and has been in working order. However, I now get that weird and random pop-ing sound that everyone has been mentioning.

The left speaker has just blown out. It was after removing the headphone from the headphone jack. In talks with Apple Support now. I caught some video of the popping sounds it was making. Hopefully this will be rectified. --- Took it to an authorized service provider who was very quick with turnaround and everything was covered by the warranty. It may be in my head, but the keyboard feels completely different, they did replace keyboard/battery/top case to complete the repair.

I just got the same problem, have my mac for about 8 months now. It was working fine until I heard a series of crackles and a beep from my left speaker. I didn't think much of it, just restarted my mac and now, about a week later, I noticed that my left speaker is pushing out much less sound. Specifically, the high end is missing from any sound I play.

My question is how did you check your speaker?
I tried apple diagnostics but it came back with no problems.
 
The reports that keep coming in of all these various hardware failings in this design cycle are really shocking, especially given the price bump that went along with them. I think Apple might just have crossed a hitherto invisible line on tolerances and robustness without realising it. These seem to be some really temperamental machines and I really don’t relish the idea of owning one if there’s a chance of it becoming a money pit.
 
You go to Audio MIDI Setup.app, and then mute the right speaker, and then turn up volume to max, you will probably hear the speaker suddenly muffles. It's normal and don't panic, just lower the volume below 50% and then select a different frequency on Audio MIDI Setup.app

Even though I mentioned it has no content on it. Even though I asked for it to be simply swapped out, since it is a brand new 2500 computer. This isn’t the Apple I remember.

At which store did this happen? That doesn’t sound right. They should’ve apologised and accepted the return. You could’ve simply not said anything about the blown speaker which can never be considered your fault and just asked to return. If there was another Apple Store in your city I’d have done just that. I’ve returned a laptop for exchange within 14 days for less and they didn’t even look in the box! I guess they thought I looked trustworthy!

Sometimes there are bad staff. I’ve also noticed you get better service at the premium or “flagship” stores. Premium store — premium service!

This same exact thing happened to me...twice now. I just went through the process of going to the Genius Bar and sending my laptop in to get repaired back in February. A couple days ago the same electrical zapping sound came from my left speaker. Back in February the whole top case was replaced so I'm surprised the issue occurred again. Bad luck I guess?
 
I've had this speaker issue 3 or 4 times already for my 2017 MacBook Pro purchase. So many repairs so far. My genius specialist told me his past customers have this issue with vlc or iina and when they scrub back and forth in playback. Personally this happened when I woke the MacBook from sleep or youtube on safari or iina and vlc.

You all can avoid this but it going to happen sooner or later again...ugh
 
I had the same problem and I just got back my MacBook from the service center.
Is there anything we can do to make sure this doesn't happen again? I only use headphones so I almost never use the internal speakers.

I'm kinda disappointed since I only had the MacBook for a few weeks

There’s no reason to. If it’s a MacBook Pro from 2017, it hasn’t been a year from release, until June.
