Hello guys,

I've received my new MacBook Pro 2 weeks ago already. During this time I have noticed that it makes a strange sticky noice when opening the display. I've looked online but I haven't understood if it is supposed to be normal or if I have to go to the apple store. Here are some videos that perfectly describe what my problems is.

Thanks in advance to whoever will help me.

Sounds like the magnet that holds the lid closed.
If it is the magnet, it must be loose (releases the lid, then drops back into place, making that "click")
Not normal.

Try a display model like yours, in an Apple store. It will be easy to decide if the noise is normal, then.

If you had it more than 2 weeks, then you are past the 14-day, no questions return period.
But, you have lots of warranty time yet.

Thank you very much for your answer. I’ll go to an apple store as soon as possible to compare the noise.
It would be really nice if someone with a MBP 15” 2019 could tell me if his Mac makes the same noice.

Thanks once again.

I have a MacBook Pro 13", 2019 and it doesn't make that noise. I don't think that sound is normal.

I have the 2019 15" MacBook Pro. It's the base model 6-core with 256 SSD. I don't know much about Macs but it sounds like maybe the hinge or something?

I just bought and picked up my MBPr 15" 2019 with i9. (32GB mem, Vega 20 video, 2TB SSD).

After using it fairly heavy for past 2 days, There is NO overly strong sticky magnet release + sound your video shows. It is a soft slightly firm release, no sound at all.

I am very very happy with the machine, having owned about a dozen Macs over past 15 years, and still own about 5 others which all work flawless (iMac 27, Mac mini server, MBPr 15" 2015, MBP 13" 2015 and a MBP15" 2011.)

I have a 13” 2019 MBP and mine makes a very mild sticking sound (much quieter than the one from your video) whenever I open it up. After doing a google search, I found that this was apparently a common problem with the newer MBP’s and it’s only the rubber sticking to the metal which creates some type of suction. I’m not confident that this is an entirely accurate explanation; however, this was all I could find on the issue. What do you guys think? Does anyone else have this same type of sound when opening their Mac?

I have the 2019 15" MacBook Pro and I don't hear anything. My guess would be it's not a big deal but maybe getting in touch with apple support is a good idea.

The sound that my computer makes is much quieter aswell compared to the video. But It makes the same kind of noise in the same situation, just quieter.

My 2018 MacBook Pro I bought in december has the exact same sticky sound when operning it after it's sat unused for a while. Hot tepmerature in the apartment seems to make the sticky sound worse...

My friend's exact identical MBP does not have this sound. It's a flaw, and should be under warranty I believe. I was told it would wear off over time, which is why I didn't bother returning it, but it still makes that annoying sound. For 2300$ I believe I don't have to accept the machine making this sound when almost everybody else's doesn't. Yeah I get it, 1st world problem bla bla bla, but still... 2300$.

I made another post about the issue to make everyone more aware of it.

Mine had it, display was replaced under warranty. Sound is gone now. After a year sound is somewhat back though, but less audible.
