Hmm, well it definitely stops the problem from happening for me. Perhaps there are different possible causes, or perhaps the two problems are unrelated but the symptoms look very similar.

Perhaps. I had read that this was an issue on 2012 rMBPs and that it was WiFi interference on certain WiFi channels, but you'd think Apple would have sorted that out by now. Given that and the fact it persists with WiFi and Bluetooth disabled, but only with the M370X enabled, leads me to think it's a different issue. I've had my logic board and display replaced multiple times and this issue still persists, so it might be an issue that affects more MacBooks than does not.

i have had this problem. Anyone else notice that the problem seems to go away when connected to external displays? I am running dual 24 inch Dell displays and experience no flicker on those or the retina display. At my home office with dual 24 Asus displays, there is also no flicker. All displays are direct connected via Thunderbolt to HDMI cables.

Actually I don't recall flickering on external displays.. hmm.. I'll keep an eye out, I'm usually connected to 2.

After 5 repairs, Apple gave me a new MacBook Pro. This one doesn't have the flicker problem (yet?) but as with the 2011 MacBook Pros, I'm worried it's only a matter of time... If/when this one starts flickering, I'll probably eat my losses and go PC desktop (hackintosh) or get a PC laptop and try to hackintosh that. My justification for an "actual" Mac was the Apple service, but the whole process of making a Genius Bar reservation at an inconvenient time and then driving there, wading through the crowd to complain to some poor guy who's been listening to people all day complain to him like he personally designed the MacBook/iPhone and it's his fault they're having issues.. Anyway, and then to be without it for 4 days and then go pick it up again hoping they replaced the right part (once they didn't and I had to come back). Better just to buy a computer with good reviews and replace it every 2 years or so like everyone else who buys from Dell/Lenovo/etc. Don't get me started on macOS...

yes, I did exchange my MacBook pro too. and my second MacBook still have the similar problem!

2.5ghz 2015 here. Was a month old when I noticed the flicker. They replaced my display. Pretty sure its done it once since then. But not since 10.12.2 which clears up some graphics issues on the 2016. Im 100% clear that the same drivers wouldn't be used and its different hardware etc so I dont need a lecture there, but I did speak to a good friend at Apple who said this was a known software problem and would be fixed. I wonder what other people's mileage has been recently.
[doublepost=1481787531][/doublepost]and its definitely not the switch between GPUs that causes this. I know what that feels like and this is different a very different issue. gfxcardstatus also shows no switch when i experience the anomaly.

The switch between iGPU and dGPU has never been the cause for me, from what I recall it's the same with others with the issue- it happens when on the dGPU. I'm skeptical about it being a software issue, but I also can't recall seeing the flickering in Bootcamp. One thing's for sure, if Apple wasn't aware of the issue, I'd likely have received a call from Apple engineers requesting more info/the MacBook itself when I first experienced the issue over a year ago.

I do hope it's a software issue, though, because if it's hardware like the 2011-2012s, all our M370X MacBooks are doomed sooner or later.

I just purchased a refurbished 2015 rMBP with dedicated GPU, and once I had gotten it set up for work and started using it, I began to notice occasional flickering in the bottom third or half of the screen. I don't see any specific image -- it just looks like a flicker of black in that portion of the screen. It happens most commonly with a mouse movement, and I can reproduce it most easily (though not every time) by shaking the mouse or trackpad cursor to make the pointer turn large. It happens with wi-fi switched on or off, with the display resolution scaled or at default, and with my Logitech unifying receiver in or out.

Then I saw this thread and tried disabling the graphics switching. So far I've seen no flickering(!). I tried re-enabling graphics switching, and the flickering was back again. I should also mention that I haven't seen any flickering when using my external display (even with switching enabled), presumably because the dedicated GPU is always being used.

Is the issue, then, definitely in the switching between the two, or could it be an issue with the Intel Iris Pro itself? And has anyone had any luck in getting this fixed? Based on various forum comments I've read, it seems Apple offers little in the way of a fix for this (and there may be no fix anyway). I can live with keeping the dedicated GPU on as long as battery life isn't too severely affected. But if it is possible that the issue might be fixed I'd like to follow up on it, as the computer is brand new, and with what these things cost they really should work as they're supposed to!

Get it fixed man... I'm sure Apple engineers know all about the issue, but we don't. I would guess it's similar to the YLOD/RROD issue affecting Xbox 360s and PS3s, whereby a chip, perhaps the R9 M370X chip, through heating and cooling of the Mac via something like gaming, can no longer make connection on all points with the logic board (solder cracks over time), but the solder perhaps was already "barely sufficient", so within a few months the issue becomes apparent. Do any gaming jihopes?

Sorry to bump this old topic but this exact issue has been bugging me for a very long time. Has anyone managed to find a permanent fix to this issue? It only happens if I'm at Discrete GPU.

Macbook Pro 2015 15" owner.

I just want to update everyone that's having this problem. I finally found a skilled technician who managed to diagnose the problem. He found out it's the GPU issue. It cost me $150 for the fix.
