What I would recommend [ if that's financially feasible for you ] is order 2 or 3 units with the same config. Keep the one that works best [ display ].

I really would suck to wait 1 - 2 weeks for a replacement... If you have to go thru 3 replacements, it would probably kill the whole excitement by the end of it... at least for me!!

Yeah I could possibly do that, but that does seem a bit excessive for something that should work correctly the first time around. But of course it is not a horrible option either haha.

Yeah having to go through a bunch of replacements and having to wait 1-2 weeks between each one would be horrible. :(

Anyone know which 15" AG panels the mid-2012 MBP is sporting, apart from A004? Expecting my BTO later this week or early next.

where do you get this 004 or 005?

Hello there,
I have a Mid2012 15" MBP with Anti-Glare-Screen and also got an LP154WE3-TLB2 with it. I´m not very happy about this screen, for me its to blueish and the black is to bright for me (to much backlight?!).
So, I would like to get some more informations on my screen and maybe on possibilities to fix it or to get replacement.
After installing the color-profiles of one member of this forum, it got much better. Now I could almost live with it, but I would like to know where to get this version-number. A good friend of mine just got his MBP2012 and essentially its the same computer, it has even the same displaynumber: LP154WE3-TLB2 but the display isn´t blueish at all. Its really pleasant, as I expect it from a high-end-laptop.
BTW, in "About this Mac" its written 13-inch... under "Displays" its written: 17-inch, but its a 15-inch... so,... maybe some bug? But what I find somehow strange is that his display seems to me so much better... I will take my computer to him to check it side by side.
Thanks a lot for any information how to know where to get this info about A005 or A004.
In any case here some screenshots:

(I cut too much of the original quote - has to do with the blue lines and hues in finder or itunes, etc.)
My wife could not see these; however, I can.[/QUOTE]

**I can too - and more. I"m so pissed. (and I'm dealing with a 2012..ie: obviously they did NOT resolve this issue!!!!!)

<sigh>

In order to get something approaching an objective view wrt brightness, I suggest those with DSLRs can try and measure nits as follows:

*DSLR in manual mode
*Prime lens (if possible)
*Av mode and set to f4
*set to 200 ISO
*Spot metering (or centre weighted average)
*1/3 EV steps
*Find a white screen e.g. http://www.aquarius-laser.com/html/images/2white_screen.jpg
*Set the lens to infinity (at short ranges the effective aperture is increased and *not* indicated as such)
*Get the camera´s exposure time, aperture and ISO value, put these into this calculator to find the EV
http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/Glossary/Exposure/Exposure_01.htm

*Then look at this list
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposure_value#EV_as_a_measure_of_luminance_and_illuminance

I get a Cd/m2 value of 256, e.g. around 250nits (estimated error +-50) for my LG Philips screen

**THANK YOU!!!
that white screen is PERFECT - now I can see *ALL* the defects of this screen - from uneven lighting to warm areas (this is a NEW computer and shouldn't have such variation from section to section) - wow - perfect - going to apple with that site bookmarked - never mind the bleeding - never noticed it so badly as with this pure white screen - or as close to white as this crappy LG 2012 model is!!
**thanks!! :)

I am looking to get a new 15 inch non-retina MacBook Pro. Reading about all of these panel lotteries are pretty scary. I have just gone through THREE Retina MacBook Pros and all had bad screens.

So what is the safest non-retina 15 MacBook Pro configuration that has the best luck of getting a good screen? As in High-res Glossy, High-res Anti-glare etc?

Given it's October now and I'm dealing with a screen I'm not happy with - it's the LG, I don't know what to tell you. I am not sure what the floor models were in Best Buy (will find out shortly) but they had a pure-proper-true white and not this off-yellowish-dirty white (and now noticing there's a more yellowish hue on the left side vertically compared to the right and other issues). The saturation is less, the brightness is less, the vibrancy is less, the contrast between saturated colors is less - overall I can't get a cool white without turning everything a blueish tint.

On the plus, it's easier on the eyes, though I am maxed out on the brightness at all times and that seems a bit scary...

My 2009 was a far superior screen but it broke so not sure what the model was. I'm going to apple this week because I am not happy and this is my 2nd computer from Best Buy but they probably have all the same stock so opening more boxes probably won't help - but might do it anyway...especially since noticing the yellow on the left side (get a white screen bookmarked to check that out - really helped http://www.aquarius-laser.com/html/images/2white_screen.jpg

sorry not much help - have only seen two LG screens thusfar and both were not as nice as my 2009 core 2 duo or the display models from when this 2012 first came out (ie: different shipment and likely different display)
and no calibration by best buy or myself could match the october models to the display models!

I did 4 returns before I ended up with a decent screen. I now have the samsung but those LG screens were worse then the screen on my wife's 2007 Dell Inspiron.

Upgraded to HD display!

Hey all,

I've been following this thread since last February when I cracked my glossy lower resolution Macbook Pro 15"(early 2011) screen.

After a considerable amount of research, I held off attempting an upgrade as all of the HD display options seemed less than consistantly good. I'm glad I did!

The display that originally came with my laptop was a LP154WP4-TLA1.
After cracking this screen stupidly, I decided to attempt replacing it myself instead being charged up the a** by Apple and upgrade it in the process.

I just installed a brand new matte 1680x1050 display: LP154WE3-TLB2
Colour saturation is amazing, blacks are dark and consistent, there is no discolouring anywhere on the screen and its bright(but not so much that it gives me a headache the way the TLA1 display was).

The monitor passed all of the tests(in my opinion) at http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ except the viewing angle, but theres almost nothing on the market that passes this test. The viewing angle is more than satisfactory for me from almost straight on but looking down at an angle slightly.

Good luck to anyone else that attempts this.

Cheers,

I got the same panel as yours, but I found there is a minor yellow tint issue on the 1/3 bottom part. not very obvious, but when you viewing a website or doing some text work, you can notice it.

What do you think your screen?

i think its perfect. it used to piss me off when it was changing between the regualr graphics and the discrete one, but i fixed that

I also have the LP154WE3-TLA2 A004 Display. I've tried to find information about it with no luck. I'm not satisfied with it though. I've bought a calibration tool to calibrate it but I just can't get it to look right. The problem seems to be that the default color of the screen is too blue. When I try to calibrate it to standard, the red channel seems to get "blown", which make sin tones look really dull.

Hi,
I've got same display in my 2012 MBP 15", had same problems with everything being too bluish. Tried calibrating it with little luck, but then found this profile by someone and it did the trick. At home I'm using it always hooked to my trusty 23" ACD (calibrated) and I'm happy with color reproduction on MBP now. Working with pictures in Aperture doesn't show a difference in colors as before.

Here's the link & please give a feedback.
