Okay, so this is my first post here, I am a long-time Windows user and I'm making the jump to a Macbook Pro, a very expensive one, at that.

I'm getting the highest end 15'' Macbook Pro and I'm adding a 7200rpm 500GB drive. One thing I am worried about is the Intel 2.8ghz processor.

I want to upgrade to 3.06ghz and would like to know the effect it would have on my battery life combined with the 7200rpm.

shouldnt have too much of a difference with the processor since they are both based on a 35W TDP

Awesome, that's great to know. I'm on a Toshiba Satellite A300 and it gives me under 2hrs battery life at best. Hopefully I'll be getting over 6hrs at best with my new MBP!
