so a few months back i was given a sweet deal on a macbook pro 15", all was fine up until last week when it wouldn't fire up. No lights under the keyboard, no light to open the eject case, no boot up what so ever. All it does, is make a weird "dying fart noise" from what i think is the HD. funny thing is, 2 days ago, i took it back out of the box, and it fired back up! but only for a quick minute, then turned back off again, and now continues to make the funny dying noises again. anyone have any symptoms, clues, or tools that i'd be able to use to get it working again?? any help would be greatly appreciated.

The noise you described is probably actually the fan sputtering, which in turn means either a dead power supply or a problem with the motherboard.
take it to apple the problem could be the video card which they will replace for free. Or they may charge you there flat rate service to get it fully fixed never know.
