i kno when gaming its brought down a lot. im talking about like surfing while IM;ing people. thats why i was looking at teh new 17 in

I have a 2.4 Unibody MB and I can get around 7 hours of battery life if I'm just taking notes in class with word. You're not going to be gaming in class.

its barely an inch taller or so than the 15"... go with the 17".. i lugged a 17 inch notebook from HP throughout college without issues. Now I have the 17" MBP. Also, it only weighs 1 pound or so more than the 15" and like 3 pounds less than the old HP one!!

Whats the best college pick between the 2 macbook pros? 15 in or 17 in? i love the new batter life on the 17 and i was able to price each one out the same so its a matter of picking one. 15in i get teh 2.8 ghz for the same money as the 17 with 2.66 but i dont think that will make much of a difference for me. yet the 17 might be too big for college for my desk in class or seeing my professor over the screen. what do you guys think? thanks alot!:):)

Not gaming in class??????? :eek::eek::eek::eek:
what the hell else am I supposed to do during my lectures?????????

Jokes aside, I would say the 15'' I looked at both (back then no uni 17")and decided the 17" was just too damned big to lug around everywhere, however I do not envy the 13" mb users in the slihgtest as the bigger screen does my eyes a hell of a lot of good ^^ I normally get 4.5 hours out of it at uni but I guess that is due to using microsoft word and not pages for taking notes (word is just as much of a resource hog on mac as it is on windows imo)
Amusingly i was trying to get the battery to empty today (the battery health thing was playing up) and I had it hooked up to an external monitor loads of usb devices plugged in and played cod 4 and the damn thing went on for almost 3 hours.... sooo annoying lol
Absolutely marvellous laptop though I reccomend it to you 100%

be a man and get the 17". I have the 17, my girlfriend has the 15, and really I enjoy working on mine much more.

It's not that bad at all. I can see the professor, lol. I am a studio art major and it comes in handy doing graphic design work and it is also nice to be able to use the screen itself to show the class work because of the nice resolution when working in groups, etc.

Do it, you won't regret it.

ahhhhhhhh now the 17 inchers are comming back with a punch! lol i will prob do comp graphics for just fun as like a minor im more medical lol. ahhh idk :(

What i did was get the baseline mbp (can't stand how small the mb screen is) and because i play some games (total war, ra3) and i couldn't be happier so easy to carry around campus and it gets good battery life lasts all day.... I didn't get the 2.53 as I heard that i wouldn't notice a large enough increase in performance (for what i was going to use the laptop for) for the money.

If you truly do what you say you do, then I'd get the 15" MBP and get just the midrange model. Less of a loss when you upsell the computer for the updated model.

Only get the 17" if you're a serious professional that really needs it.

I'm a (nearly) university student and have the old 15" MBP, and it does EVERYTHING I want it to do and works just fine, and runs all CS3 apps and FCE all smoothly.

Save the money and pimp your 15" out with some more software.

e it is.
If you still go for a pro, 17" is just blowing money. Go the entry level 15".

Why is it "blowing money"? Everything about the 17" is better, other than portability. The OP already said he owned a 16" laptop and it was fine.

Besides, the 15" and 17" aren't much different in size. The difference on paper is 2" diagonal, but it's not even that. The 17" MBP has a far smaller bezel!! Overall, the machine is around 1" longer, and 0.75" deeper in physical size. It's not as big as the difference between the 13.3" MB and the 15.4" MBP.

hmm i guess ill go with the 15 inch. its a nice size and for the same amount of moeny for a 2.66 17in which is now delayed, i can get a 2.8ghz.

I've been using a 15" throughout my 5 years in univ. First a PowerBook G4, now a MacBook Pro. 17" is too unwieldy in classed and lecture theatres.
