I have been hanging onto my 15" 2015 MBP waiting for AS MacBook Pros to drop. And this year... they finally support dual displays. It was time to buy! The chonky looks don't bother me. However, one thing I did notice is... the new Macbook Pro is difficult (for me) to pick up. The weight isn't an issue, though it could be a factor. Let me explain...

My old 2015 and its tapered sides made it easy to scoop off a desk. I could get my finger tips just under the edge and scoop it up with one hand. Ever try to pick a penny (or any coin with smooth sides) off a smooth tile floor? You have to claw at it a few times to get under the edge and pick it up... Well, the new 2021 AS MBP is similar. I can't just scoop it off the table like I could with my 2015 MBP. The added weight could play a small factor in this, but really, it's just hard to get under it with my finger tips (everyone has different sized fingers / nails so maybe this is no problem for you.)

Maybe this will improve once I find a shell for the new MBP. I haven't used a MacBook case-less in over a decade.

I should add, this really isn't a problem when it is on a couch or other deformable surface.

This could actually be a big step backwards in accessible design for some people.

Yeah, even the 14" is very hard to scoop off of a flat surface with one hand. I always have to use 2 hand, or risk scraping the edges against the surface of whatever the MacBook is sitting on. It's not weight or even size. It's just that the new "classic" look makes these so hard to dig under.

I like the fact that once you do have the 16" MBP picked up, the edges are more rounded closed lid, unlike my older mid 2012 15" retina MBP which had sharper edges all around the body, like your 2015 retina model. Yes it was angled, but its not as comfortable to hold once you do pick it up two handed, and then start to carry it by one hand to an another area.

This thing should have been called the PowerBook M1. It's a tank in all the right ways. Very remincient of my old PowerBook back in the day, which I love. If you've never held or picked one up, it's not all that different.

So far I'm really digging the power and design in these new Macs.

Pro Tip: Lift from the back center and front center, a little light force and you're off to the races. Re-adjust and secure. No more scooping/cutting into skin!

Thanks for the tip. that does help. But I noticed it does scoot along the table a little more than my 2015 also. I think this again comes down to me not using a hard case. I'll see about ordering one ASAP.

Yeah I have one go the old titanium powerbooks. Very similar overall shape.
