At 15.6" it might not be that bad. This is the resolution for panels used in 720p LCDs and those can be larger then 30".

Yes, but those are very low resolution. the highest rez, widely available tv's are 1080p, but the 24" imac is 1200px, and the 30" is even higher (1600px?). That's a big difference, and the reason most people invest in mbp's is because they use them for some professional task - design, photo editing, videography, etc... 720px high is NOT enough resolution for those tasks.

Have you ever hooked a mac up to a 720 lcd tv? I have, and it's very awkward and pixelated (not screen distortions, but because the physical pixels are so big)

I'd think most pros would remain fans of 16:10, as it gives us room for menus and tool bars while editing HD footage, etc... 16:9 would mean that editing suites would need to adapt by adding a "auto hide dock" type function to all the tools, so they wouldn't cover the footage, but instead drop down when hovered over. I think we'd be annoyed at needing that extra step for all editing tasks.
