Hi guys,

Got my new MacBook Pro 16” and love it. Just have a quick question for others that have one.

Does the delete key feel a little different and have different sound to click ? Like a looser sound? I’m sure it’s cause it’s different shape like the tab key. Just wondering if this is normal?

Thanks :)

why it's called delete key if it's behaving like backspace (without FN)?
It's really weird because in Euro version is arrow symbol

Thanks for the responses. It’s not a big deal seems like how certain ones are. It’s no biggy :)

It does not behave like a backspace. A backspace just moves the cursor to the left. A delete key REMOVES text to the left of the cursor.

Really? In what context does it do that?

PCs have generally referred to the key that deletes backward as "Backspace" and the key that deletes forward as "Delete" but Macs have traditionally only had "Delete" which is functionally identical to "Backspace" on a PC. So this is really a Mac vs. PC thing. By the way, if you want a forward Delete, you can press Fn + Delete, but I generally remap the right Option button to forward Delete using Karabiner since I prefer to have it be a dedicated key.

And yes, Delete does sound different, but that's not really a problem.

Yeah this is how my delete key on my English US/Arabic Keyboard:

I've heard of others feeling different and maybe louder than some of the other keys. Mine doesn't feel any different to me than the other keys.

The biggest irony in this is that my work MacBook Pro 2019 13" with Butterfly Keyboard v4 feels and sounds quieter and more consistent than the 16". :) Though I have been hating butterfly from the beginning, but must admit that the v4 is good.

Agreed. I like the v4 MBP 15 keyboard a lot, feels more solid. But I’m not confident it won’t break In a few years.

Well I have contacted Apple and they have said this isn’t right and offered to send me a new one. So I’ll see what they new one is like.

I also have the same problem. Does the new Mac apple offer have this problem?

Yes, I got a replacement seems to be the same. I have tried one in store that doesn't feel/sound like this though - so I guess it not just how they are?

My delete key is kind of faulty, too. It is like the upper half of it is not "clicking". I have to press the entire key to get it to work, which is frustrating.
It also feels a little different, looser. Return, tab and caps lock keys, which are larger than the letteres, are working normally.

Hi, suddenly from yesterday I have a similar problem. If I press on the left half of the key it does not working. I really do not understand how to solve this problem. I will use air compressed and then I will put it to the assistance.

Quick update! For me, moving the key with a very thin card worked. Kind of doing what is done here:

I didn't take the key out (the sound in the video scared me), just moved it a little bit, which I believe helped with its placement and "clickiness". 🤷‍♂️

Thanks, I will try and then I will let you know.
