I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I was saying. If there were discrepancies in testing, those are so minute that there's more variation from silicon to silicon. It makes very little sense, almost idiotic, to draw the conclusion that the MBP 17 is faster/slower. Hence with a statement like:
The 15" doesn't let high-end processors run as fast as the 17" does, so that would pretty much be buying a car with a turbo sticker as opposed to an actual turbo.

That's just plain misinformation.

It has slightly better speakers though.

Screen real estate is a plus, but physical size is a minus. MBP 17 is not suitable for travel... it simply doesn't fit on those fold down trays without severely impeding the person sitting next to you. And it kinda makes you look like a tool if you're taking notes/on facebook in class with it. All 17+ inch laptops sort of stick out in public.

Hey guys.
THANKS SOOOOOOO MUCH FOR THE REPLIES AND COMMENTS AND THE TROLLS AND THE HELP :D
I went with the 17" 2.3ghz Antiglare!
I think that this is a really helpful thread so we should keep it rolling!
Btw i realise that with Discrete graphics the laptop runs at about 68C with fan control and with intel idles at around 45C.

A bit off-topic, but related.

I have the opportunity to basically trade my 17" MBP (see sig) for a 15" AntiGlare, 2.3GHz model, used once, 1 battery cycle, AppleCare until 2014. Would you do it? And I'd keep my SSD and HDD/OptiBay. Considering I have a Thunderbolt Display for extra pixels, it's tempting.

17" seems like it's for very small demographic who really needs all the desktop space they can get on the go. It's too big for carrying around everyday, if it's going to be sitting at home a good 20"+ monitor would be much more comfortable.

You get slightly better airflow but you don't really get a bump in specs.

I guess if you're getting a decked out 15" (better gpu, higher res) then the price difference might not be as hard to swallow. But from a non bto option it's hard to justify the price difference for a bit more space.

Nonsense.

Ok, maybe not the airplane part. But the rest.

15 inches is a trade off in both directions. An 11 or 13 inch is more portable. A 17 inch offers more screen real estate. A 15 in public just makes you look a little less like a tool since you are in a herd of tools.

Putting a large external display on a 15 is still not equal to putting the same size external display on a 17.

I looked at the 17 for quite a while before settling on a 17 PC that had more performance. The previous OP is on the money when he says the 17 only offered more real estate with no bump in performance.

Now I am in the market for an 11/13. Either the 11 MBA or the 13 MBP.

I love the 15 inch, I just upgraded last night to the newest model. I did have a 17 inch macbook pro from Mid-2010, and I love it, but for some reason just went with the 5 inch this go around, lol it just felt right, and looks great. I have yet to play on it as I was busy but tonight its game on with playing with it, so far I put the clear spec case I bought for it on.
