I just want a thin, 17" MacBook Pro (doesn't have to be Retina).. that is user upgradeable and has a high end GPU.

Yup, I'd take one too. I don't even care about the retina as well. A decent high resolution (say... 1900x1200 at 17") would be amazing.

Late last summer, one of the local Best Buy stores was blowing out all of its 17" MBPs. I could have picked up a high-end stock configuration for $1,699 -- which, if I recall correctly, was about $300 off the regular price. I was tempted, but I couldn't justify the expenditure at the time. In retrospect, I probably should have gotten it. But there are a lot of things I should have done in retrospect. :)

Seriously, I don't think Apple will ever revive this model. My personal wish is for them to revive the mid-priced tower, which isn't going to happen. Oh, how I loved my Power Mac 400 "Sawtooth" from 2000. I kept it for 8 years (with lots of upgrades) and then gave it to my dad, who got another 2 years out of it before it died.

Exactly.

My God, I just looked at SOLD listings for a 2.5Ghz BTO 17" MBP, a couple went for over $3k last month - and they weren't even as loaded as mine is!

I can't even say how tempting that is to sell mine for $3000. Sheesh.

Good luck with that one, few wanted the 17" in the first place, let alone used :p Shop around and you can pick a 17" up for as little as $1500 NIB. I have seen them myself priced easily under $2K here in Asia, @ $1.5K I might consider. At the end of the day they are soon to be three generations behind Apple`s latest offerings, and used tech is well used...
