Alright folks... the last few days my (quite well-worn) Macbook Pro is exhibiting some funky behavior with the trackpad button. I bought it about 2.5 years ago, and for almost a year it was my primary computer, so it's gotten a lot of use. It runs great but suddenly this issue has cropped up.

About 90-95% of single-left-clicks (single click) are recognized as double-clicks. I've tried the various tricks posted around the web (one I found here) which included:

  • cleaning;
  • pushing up from inside the battery compartment;
  • messing with double-click speed settings;
  • praying;

Without success. Luckily my new MBP arrives today 😀. But I am going to sell this old one, so I want to make sure it's in good working order. Do you think replacing the top case part (which includes a new trackpad and button) will do the trick? I saw a few tips for fixing it but hadn't seen anyone who'd actually replaced the part, so I want to see if it's going to work before I spend the dough on the part.

Thanks everyone.
