Macbook Pro 2011 Ext Monitor not displaying correctly

Hey guys

Total Mac newb here. I was just unboxing my new Macbook Pro 13" and wanted to hook it up to my Hannspree monitor. It has a HDMI to the Monitor with a DVI output which went into my old laptop.

I bought a DVI to display port (Monoprice) port adapter but when it shows up it does not display correctly. Very blurry.

What is the diagonal measurement/native resolution on the Hannspree? You may need the mini Display Port to dual-link DVI adapter instead.

1920 x 1200 max resolution and 27"

Would going to a strait hdmi to mini display work better.
The DVI was my existing cord.
