Hi everyone,

Looking for anybody who can point me in the right direction about my 2011 Macbook Pro, I have the standard 500GB HD on the machine with 430GB free, I have 4GB of RAM. I don't use it for Photoshop, gaming or any major programs (I couldn't if I wanted to). It gets extremely laggy if I have more than 4-5 tabs open on Safari/Chrome especially if running any flash features Youtube/streaming etc.

People often tell me I need to upgrade the ram and using the activity monitor it says a lot of the memory out of the 4gb is used however the memory pressure stays as a constant level green bar....?

I'm currently running OS X 10.9.5. These are the other features... Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB, Software OS X 10.9.5 (13F1911).

Any ideas on what I should try/do? I don't want to just guess and waste $$ or potentially ruin my Macbook!!

Regards!

Ben

If it is slow because you Upgraded! Run the free checking software EyreCheck and see if you have some incompatible hackies, plugins, etc. the program will output a text file showing what is out of date. Then you can manually delete those files and reboot after deleting those files

If you are still using a platter-based hard drive in the MacBook, upgrade it to an SSD.

I assure you, it won't be "slow" any more after doing that...
