i have a dell st2410 monitor. and it only shows at 1600x900 resolution while my mbp 15 (2011 i7 2.0) shows at 1680x1050.

am i missing something here? i have mirroring off. i bought the monitor knowing that it supports 1920x1080 resolution.

im also using the hdmi connector whiile using a belkin mini displayport to hdmi adapter.

im not sure if this is an issue with my monitor or my macbook pro. ive tried searching google for answers but i cant find the answer, ive been looking for 3-4 hours now.:(

thanks in advance.

1600x900 and 1920x1080 are 16:9 aspect ratios, while 1680x1050 is a 16:10 aspect ratio. Does your monitor specifically support any 16:10 aspect ratios? I'm guessing it does not.

The aspect ratio of the monitor isn't limited to the computers aspect ratio. Wonder why your getting a problem.

I use a mini-display port to DVI adapter with my 2011 i5 13" and and a 23" Dell monitor. I have had no issues at all with this set up. Maybe try a DVI adapter and report back.

You must go into the Display in System Preferences and set the resolution for that monitor. Once done it should use that setting every time you plug in that monitor - using a mini-display to DVI connector. I have a 26" NEC monitor with 1920 x 1200 so I use that setting.

yes on that screen, i dont see 1920x1080 as an option (which is the max res for my 24" monitor)

i just ordered a dvi cable, and see if that will make a difference compared to the hdmi cable im using.

dont see why hdmi vs dvi is a problem. i am user acer h2333h running 1080p over hdmi with no problem what so ever using 2011 mbp as well

so yeah, i just got a dvi cable and minidisplay adapter to dvi adapter from monoprice. and it works fine now. i now get the full 1920 x 1080 resolution that i wanted.:)

im not sure whether it was the hdmi cable or the belkin minidisplay to hdmi adapter was the issue.

i would venture to say belkin minidisplay port? is it the one that includes the audio passthrough? i am just taking a stab, but belkin is a pretty big brand on these stuff. only reason i think it doesnt work well is because it doesnt do audio passthrough...? glad u have it sorted out though

i dont think that's the one, i had it returned to the apple store already even if its past 2 days past the return date.

i think it has to do with the hdmi and the new macbook pros. im not sure though
