Is there any other setting that I should modify to keep the computer asleep when plugging/unplugging AC?

Normally acwake should take care of that. But others in this thread have tried changing it without success. Give it a try anyway. Edit: meaning try setting it to 1 just to see what happens (since you already tried 0).

From the pmset man pages:

Code:
acwake - wake the machine when power source (AC/battery) is changed (value = 0/1)

Kissmygrass, mine did not wake up upon AC removal this morning after I applied these settings last night. Do each line one at a time. I took this from another thread (sorry for the lack of giving credit to the person who posted it).

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
sudo rm /private/var/vm/sleepimage
sudo touch /private/var/vm/sleepimage
sudo chflags uchg /private/var/vm/sleepimage

I don't suppose there's any way to disable this setting without changing these settings via terminal, is there?

I'm not sure, but let me put it this way (non sarcastically; I mean complete respect). I'm sure someone would have already posted a setting to change it if there was one. It's somewhat incredible we're two pages on this thread.

Yeah, I agree.

Honestly, I'm a bit leery of changing stuff at the command line, I suppose I'll just have to wait for a patch :(

No change, there is still a brief moment when computer becomes alive (on plugging/unplugging AC), then it goes back to sleep. This is not the expected behaviour. Has somebody started escalating this directly to Apple?

OK, this is getting ridiculous, it's hibernating again while plugged in and turning on when I pull the power cord out

I have a 2012 MBP 2.6GHz with high res screen; is it worth someone whose MBP works correctly uploading their power management settings for those of us with problems to copy?

The most annoying part is that it just happened out of the blue, I didn't do anything. Was it definitely that supplemental update we all downloaded which changed the setting?

It says sleep prevented by 232

Honestly? I don't think this will work. These settings simply don't work as expected.

Not out of the blue, seems that MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 is responsible for these problems.

Try setting hibernatemode to 0 instead of 3. That worked for me.

Thanks, I tried that but it's still waking up and putting my mac into hibernation...

How frustrating! I'd call Apple but from what I've read it sounds like they're unaware how to fix it.

The only thing I can think of is to steal someone else's settings somehow.

I'm comfortable with using the shell, should I try zeroing out the sleepimage trick?

Where'd you read that? I'm not calling shenanigans, I'm just curious of the source thread to read through what others have attempted (e.g. calling Apple).

This worked for me, it even seems to have sped up the computer going to sleep when I close the lid.

Go on and change hibernatemode setting. What's the problem? :)

^This is the problem.

Anyway, I changed the autopoweroffdelay to 72000 and it seems to have sorted that problem out. I've also locked the sleepimage file.

skitzogreg, I can't remember where I just remember reading something along the lines of "tried calling applecare but they said they were unaware of a problem and couldn't suggest anything".

I'm not sure if it's worth an update (or bump to my own thread), but It's been days now and I haven't noticed any issues since I changed my settings as mentioned previously. Hope this helps others until (hopefully) 10.8.3.

I know :) The suggestion was to "steal" the settings from other users, which simply will not work in this case.

Why wouldn't it work? It's the same model MacBook Pro with presumably the same innards and same operating system.

If you give me a logical explanation as to why it would not work in this case then I'll concede defeat.

I have a mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro 2.7 ghz i7. This problem started directly after installing 10.8.2.

I have called AppleCare on the matter. The rep said he had never heard of the problem (yeah right) and told me to reset the SMC. After that he had zero suggestions.

Yesterday, I happened to walk by an Apple store and went in just for the heck of it. Three salespeople stated they had never heard of the issue and suggested I reset the SMC. Then they said I should make a genius bar appointment because the AppleCare reps don't know anything and either do the salespeople. Nice.

I'm pretty sure if I made a genius appointment I would be told that "don't know about the problem" and i'd have to show them by leaving the computer there for a while. Then, I'm pretty confident at this point they would not have a solution.

This is very frustrating. I hope it's fixed in the next update.

This weird sleep/hibernate behavior started for me after I put in the supplemental update 1.0 which came out a month ago. Apple just posted a new update which doesn't seem to have the sleep issues.
Note that even though this has a November date on it, it's actually a brand new update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1609

Macbook Pro 2012 Hibernating (10.8.2)

Kissmygrass, mine did not wake up upon AC removal this morning after I applied these settings last night. Do each line one at a time. I took this from another thread (sorry for the lack of giving credit to the person who posted it).

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
sudo rm /private/var/vm/sleepimage
sudo touch /private/var/vm/sleepimage
sudo chflags uchg /private/var/vm/sleepimage

I would not recommend using chflags uchg which locks the file and prevents the operating system from recreating it when needed ever.

I had the same issue as the OP with my Macbook Pro 2012 13" non-retina. As I have fitted an SSD I wanted the following behaviour.

When plugged into AC Power:
Enter standby only, never hibernate.

When unplugged:
Enter standby for 60 minutes, then hibernate regardless of remaining battery capacity.

After some experimenting and observation these settings achieve what I wanted and seem to be working for now.

sudo pmset -a hibernate 0
Disables hibernate and the writing to disk of sleepimage in all modes

sudo pmset -a standbydelay 3600
Sets delay for hibernate to 60 mins for all modes

sudo pmset -b hibernate 25
Enables immediate hibernate when operating on battery only

sudo pmset -b standby 1
Forces OS to respect the standbydelay when operating on batter, thus entering hibernate only after 60 minutes of standby.

These are my recommended settings for anyone with an SSD especially if you have more than 4GB RAM as it both reduces unnecessary writes of the sleepimage when on AC power and it helps to conserve battery health by putting the machine into hibernate after a specified delay when running off it's battery.

Macbook Pro 2012 Hibernating-me too!

I had this identical issue with my new Macbook, purchased 12/26/12.(DVD sound, gray screen, progress bar and frozen mouse) I took it back to the Apple store and since they could not duplicate issue (of course) they replaced it(Feb. 2013). Guess what? New one does it as well! I took it back again and they said it must be in my software-which they migrated from old Mac to new one(s). Now it is in my court to try to clean up my computer and take back to them to try migration of files one at a time. I have OS 10.8.3.
I AM NOT a techie but wondering if anyone has found resolve of this issue and is it a problem with this version?
