I just tried to clean the inside of my macbook pro (15', late 2013) today since the fan noise is insane. Then when I removed the back lid, I found that the battery module is swollen.

please see the picture.

This scared me. Because recently I heard a lot about batteries, samsung cellphone, dell laptop, but I didnt expect that my mac is also facing issues with batteries.

Since I bought i in 2014, the warranty is long gone, and replacing the battery seems cost a lot, what should I do? should I remove the battery immediately then use it like a desktop?

Put the back on and take it to a brick-n-mortar Apple store at your first opportunity.
As in... immediately.

Chances are, they will replace the battery for free.

Even if they would not replace it for free. If I had to choose between explosive batteries or a replacement / new laptop, i would definitely choose the latter.

Maybe your MBP was exposed to direct sun-light in a not well temperature controlled environment?
