hi to you all. I am in the process of looking to upgrade my MacBook Pro 15” early 2013 2.7ghz 16gb 500gb machine.
I was looking at the new 2017 MacBook Pro 15” either 2.9 or the 3.1ghz,

The MacBook I have now is reasonably quick for an old laptop but does show some lag when editing pictures and videos.

Would I see a vast improvement if I upgrade to one of the mentioned macs?

Many thanks for your time.

I’d recommend you to wait for 2018 release, which will most likely bring substantial performance improvements.

I second the above suggestion. You can definitely afford to wait, and next year's revision of the 15" MBP is very likely to gain additional CPU cores and new GPUs.

Many thanks for your reply. I think I will wait till next year.
But
I know what your saying about waiting till the next model but if people where to wait for what the next laptop was going to be you wouldn’t ever buy one!

Well, not reallly. Right now, we are experiencing a big CPU (and GPU) paradigm shift, so there are advantages to waiting. It wasn’t really the case in the last few years, since the CPU performance was mostly stagnating.

I have been dithering over whether to get a 2015 mbp but I think I'll wait...just to see my hopes dashed in 2018...lol

I "third" the recommendations in posts 2 and 3 above.

WAIT.

The current version of the MacBook Pro is having design problems, particularly with the keyboards...

I have the late 2013 MBP. Similarly waiting for Coffee Lake CPU.

Not sure if the Intel/AMD partnership will bear fruit just yet, but that’s another thing to look forward to. I might wait until 2019 for that.

Next year we should see 15 inch machines with hex core cpu’s And vega graphics for the first time since Haswell came out it’s been worth waiting.
