I took my MBP (early 2015) in for a battery swap, told the “genius” that I’d installed a 3rd party SSD, he said there was no problem with that, but fast forward to today and I have been informed that my repair will cost $999 because of the 3rd party SSD and unspecified damage related to that SSD. Interesting, because there was nothing wrong with it when I took it in.

Can I just pop in the old SSD and take it back to Apple for the repair, or will they refuse to do it because of this supposed “damage” caused by a SSD which has absolutely nothing to do with the battery? Really fed up with Apple right now since it’s 1.5 hours to the store one way.

Or do I need to DIY this battery repair? Looks like OWC sells kits for <$100.

I would stick the stock SSD back in and try Apple again. If they refuse, ask them specifically what damage are they referring to that was allegedly caused by the third party SSD drive.
