Hi!

I'm going to buy a used macbook pro (retina), and I find myself in a dilemma.

Should I buy a 2015 macbook pro with a broken battery -1700 cycles- (€ 400) or a 2014 macbook pro with a working battery -1100 cycles- (€ 400 also)

In the 2014 model battery has a duration of 4h (30m in the 2015), but I don't know when it will broke, on the other hand, in the 2015, although it is better, it would imply an additional outlay (to change the battery), so I don't know what the deal is. best.

Is there much difference between the 2014 and 2015 models?

The use that I will give it will be basically: word, internet, amateur edit (photoshop).

Macbook pro 2014 13": i5 (2,6 ghz), 8gb Ram, 128gb SSD

Macbook pro 2015 13": i5 (2,7ghz), 8gb Ram, 128gb SSD

There is potentially more variation in the range for any given year than between years.
What processors, RAM, SSD size and are these 15 or 13 inch models.

If you want my gut instinct - buy something that works and doesn't need repairing.

There is not too much difference, the SSD, Intel Iris 6100 and RAM will be a little faster in the newer one, but the processor speed difference is not likely that important. For photoshop you would be better having some more room on the storage and 16GB of RAM and that would also give you some future proofing. I have an early 2015 here (with 16GB RAM) and it is a very useable machine. I use it for beta testing.

The seller from 2015 tells me that 2 weeks ago the battery lasted about 4 hours, but one day he received a notice to repair the battery and that now it only lasts 30 minutes.

On the other hand, the 2014 one, although it works correctly, with 1100 it may be a matter of months before it breaks down.

I just noticed that the one from 2015 also suffers from staingate :(

8gb is going to hurt in PS. I’d rather go with a 2012 that has (or you can swap yourself to) 16gb.

That said, you could probably resell either of those 3rd gens for the same price without too much effort if you don’t find them adequate.
