Hey :)

First post, hope I don't make any mistakes!

So I'm looking to get hold of a Data Migration Tool/Kit for 2016/17 MacBook Pro (using the little port on the motherboard). I can't see to find one for same in the UK or the USA (was going to pay shipping to the UK!).

This is the one that plugins into the mainboard on a port, then connects via thunderbolt/usb-C to another MacBook pro to migrate data etc.

Is it available anywhere? I did try eBay, of course. UK or USA with shipping, new or used - so long as it's in working condition. Anyone know anywhere that sells them (or anyone got one for sale?!).

Cheers in advance!

Are you doing your data migration by connecting two MacBook Pro laptops? If so, you can can connect both computers by using a thunderbolt 2 or thunderbolt 3 cable. If you backed up using time machine you can do the migration with time machine but that would take much longer.

See if this will help you https://bit.ly/2HMrUj1 or https://bit.ly/3jE702c
One would assume they need something more comprehensive if they’re making this particular request...

Those tools are very closely guarded by Apple. If one leaves the company it will be retrieved as it would be stolen property. There is also special software with that tool which is hard to come by. They are only to be used in the case of a dead motherboard, otherwise the supported thunderbolt target disk mode is the preferred method. Assuming you have a newer machine that is still under warranty and a machine with a dead motherboard I'd say take both to an Apple store and have them do the migration if they can.
What are you looking to do? There might be a better way?

I agree but that would have required the op be a bit more clear on what he’s trying to do. He’s fishing to the forum which required the same response back to him.

As mzeb suggested - it's an Apple-proprietary tool.
You wouldn't find that outside of an Apple store, or Apple Authorized service provider, in the back room, with the rest of the service tools.
I could be totally wrong on this - but, not for sale to the public...
