My friend here in the UK has a 13” MacBook Pro 2016 (Two Thunderbolt 3 ports).

The battery charges but there’s increasingly hardly any battery life before it has to be plugged in to be recharged.

I got her to check the battery condition - The Cycle Count is 216 and the Condition is Normal.

Obviously there is something seriously wrong here. I’ve checked the status of the warranty and it’s out of its warranty period.

I’m going to tell her to get a Genius appointment booked to get it looked at. My question is will she likely get charged for a battery replacement, if so how much could it cost £££ roughly?

I’ve checked to see if she qualifies for any service programs, unfortunately her MacBook doesn’t.

Those are good questions to ask the Apple Genius when she goes to her appointment.

She has a 2016? Butterfly keyboard?

If she has ANY issues with ANY of the keys (even if minor!). bring it to Apple and they will replace the keyboard, top case, and battery for free.

Reason being is that they can’t replace a single key, but the entire keyboard that’s connected to top case which is connected to the battery. Thus giving her a new battery for free without charge AND a new top case if she had any scratches or minor defects in the keys.

The keys are known to “stick” from crumbs, dust, and any other particle, which requires this repair and if you’re out of warranty, it’s still covered.

So tell your friend to eat chips or pretzels on top of the laptop to get this keyboard going faster.

It’s £199... the 2016’s are retina.
