Hi

I'm going to go for it and order a new 15" macbook pro. Was waiting to hear about new design iMac and or mini. Heard no rumours

I want a monitor to go with it. Don't know wether i should get a LG 5k ultra fine or a cheaper one and buy a apple one when t comes out

i would like it to be usb c and capable of charging the 15" macbook pro

any thoughts?

Unless you need a monitor now I'd wait till October to see if Apple comes out with a monitor for the mini. Since you are so close it would make sense to at least see if they do but if you need something now that LG 5k is a great monitor, I've had one for a little over a year and it broke outside of warranty (logic board) and they extended the warranty, sent a box over so I could ship it and fixed it for free. I was really impressed actually and it's been a great monitor for me.

My opinion only:
DON'T buy a display based on the criteria that it can "charge the macbook".

"USB charging" is... well, it's "fluff" and nothing more.

Buy a display based on:
- the resolution you want
- good warranty
- right connections (displayport, etc.)

I just picked up the LG Ultrawide 38" on sale. My MBP arrives tomorrow. So far it's amazing with my PC. Will be conducting lots of tests once I am setup with my MBP.

What sort of work will you be doing with your MBP?

hi

Word, powerpoint, exel

Watching and clipping video

some video editing

Why not just buy a USB-C dock with power delivery and plug the monitor and any other peripherals into that? One cable to connect when you sit down with the MBP.
