I need a new macbook pro and like all of you I‘m split between the i5 and i7 (10th Gen)
So a friend of my dad told me that for 3D-Modelling and i7 is absolutley necesary... Is this true?
He‘s an architect so I guess he should know, but he uses the 2015 or 2016 Macbook pro.. has it changed in 2020?
Not necessary. i5 will perform just as well as the i7 when you're pushing it. i7 will perform slightly better in single core and short bursts of power.

What are your thoughts on the 10th gen 2020 i5 versus i7 variant ?

is it worth paying the extra for the upgrade?

if you going to use for photo and video editing for 1080p quality the 512ssd,8gb ram and i5 is enough. but in the future if you want to use in photo and video editing in 4k and using pro apps the 512ssd,16gbram and i7 is better and handle the pro apps. thats why the name of this laptop is macbook “pro”. for me i7 is worth it with 512ssd and 16gb ram. if you need extra storage buy samsung ssd external 500gb or 1Tb to save your done project. 512 built-in internal storage using for the apps and updating os.

Did you go with i5 / i7 or just get M1 ?

I ordered an i7, changed it to i5 and ended up sending it back for the M1 ... which was nearly twice as quick on Geekbench to the i5 16GB ... 7500 versus 4450 multicore. i5 was nice though tbh.
