Good evening everyone,

I'm new to the forums and hope someone here might be able to clear up some confusion since Apple's current wait times are horrendous. I got my new Macbook Pro 2020 13 Inch recently and I chose to upgrade the RAM to 32 GB and got the i7 10th Gen processor. I checked the about this mac part of my laptop today and it shows I have 32 GB RAM LPDDR4. On Apple's website and in my order confirmation email, it is listed as LPDDR4X. Did Apple install the wrong RAM into my machine? or is this normal? It seems to be missing the X portion.

Thanks so much!

Welcome to MacRumors!

You are seeing this in the About This Mac screen? What does it say if you go to System Information? If you go to the Apple menu, click and hold the Option key and About This Mac will change to System Information. Click on Memory under the Hardware tree for further details about your RAM.

Thank you! I have attached an image of what I am seeing. Definitely not seeing the X afterward.

Curious indeed. Mine says LPDDR4X but I have the 10th gen i5 with 16GB RAM. I wonder if there's some sort of limitation or something when the system has more than 16. What does the spec label on the back of your MBP box say?

I have the same model as you, but mine says LPDDR4 in system report like OP.

Which version of Catalina are you running?

Mine said LPDDR4 with the version it came with (10.15.4) but says LPDDR4X on 10.15.6.

OP:

The "X" doesn't matter.
The RAM is soldered in at the factory and is non-changeable.
It either works... or... it doesn't work (in that case the only solution is to change the motherboard).

I just checked my 10th gen i5/512/16GB, and it also showed LPDDR4 on 10.15.5. After updating to .6, it now shows 4X.
