What’s the practical difference here and what type of apps would see benefit between 24 and 32-core GPUs? Trying to decide which to get. Thanks!
 
I'm interested in thoughts as well. Didn't even know that was a thing until I started ordering.
 
yea they did not mention the different cores in the event and then its like..a puzzle of what those graphs they showed were for what machine configurations...ugh.
 
Waiting for review units and see whats the game plan. I'm happy with my M1 MBP 8gb except i keep getting the memory swap issue when overloaded with tabs and apps sometimes.

We will have to wait for reviews to know for sure. So far, estimates put the 32 core at around 90% or so of the performance of the Nvidia 3080m which itself gets fairly close to a desktop RTX 3070. With that in mind, a 24 core could you somewhere between a 3060m and a 3070m. Maybe around 30% less performance than the 32 core.

As far as what would benefit from the extra cores: Video editing (especially 4K), High resolution-multi layer Photo editing, graphic design, 3D modeling, Game design, Playing games (though that would be a horrible reason to by a Mac). Out of those, Video editing and 3D modeling would be the ones that would probably benefit the most and be able to tell the difference (even if the difference is small), especially as more apps begins to support GPU rendering on Apple silicon.

Realistically, the majority of users could probably get the 16 core GPU version and be just fine... In fact more than just fine since the 16 core is still faster than the fastest dedicated GPU in the 2019 16”…

Apps don’t have to be programmed to benefit from more GPU. If it’s there it runs faster if it’s not it runs slower. Whereas multi core CPU apps have to be programmed to be multithreaded. So a 32 core GPU will be faster for all apps that use GPU. Unless an app is serious CPU limited.

$200 is a small price for an upgrade for a machine that I plan to use for 4years or until the next redesign. I maxed out everything except for storage. Only thing that can be expanded in a way externally. Went with 4tb. Currently have a 1tb that is busting at the seems. i carry around a 4tb external hard drive.
 
24 GPU cores is going to be fine unless you're doing really heavy weight stuff. The current M1 (not pro or max) is already a video editing beast.
 
I just stumbled upon this review and searched MacRumours for any confirmation that 24 core is on par with 32 core because of throttling?

any thoughts?
Kubat, I was just about to post this. I think Max Tech does a pretty thorough job of reviewing all of these variables. I personally don't think a 32-core GPU is worth the money. I'd personally go for the 24-core if you can find it!

Can someone comment on real world experience with 24 vs 32 cores? Has anyone had the 24 and later upgraded or compared it to the 32 core GPU?
