Macbook pro 250GB external hard drive

Hi i leasing a macbook pro and each year i need to give my laptop back which means i need to get an external hard drive that can back everything up and i have no idea which one would be the most suitable for me to buy considering cost and such

Yes i have read a bit about them but i don't really understand all the technical aspects of it and was hoping if somebody could break it down for me..
