I know that's like horrible or something amongst apple users. But I need to make this puppy last a bit longer. That means heat dissipation mainly because of my 8600m chip. It's forced me to take it in, and the apple guys said it failed the test, but somehow when I took it home all was well.
Anyway, since then it's been a constant heat battle. video gets choppy if too hot, terrible performance in video editing/generative video applications. Always perorms better when colder.
So what are my options. In another thread we're talking about underclocking voltages, but before that, what else can I do. I hear those usb powered double fan tilt thinks are hit or miss, so I dont want to waste money.
Long and short, I'm thinking of removing my optical and replacing it with a fan placed to suck air in through the disc slot (first remove fuzz and replace with fish dust mesh) and pull it through to the rear where the gpu (and all the heat) comes from.
But then I harkened back to my old PC case modding days and thought...well what parts of the top might I be able to alter? I could cut slots or a fan whole (for opti/fan replacement) on my palm rest.
I realize the aluminum case is part of the heat dissapation for the MBP so I'm coming here asking for experience advice.
