macbook pro 3,1 take 8GB ram?

Okay, I have a:

MBP 3,1 2.2GHz C2D
120GB 5400RPM HDD
2GB RAM

I want to do:

128GB SSD
8GB RAM (I know it only uses 6GB, but 2x4GB is cheaper than 4GB/2GB and will "maybe" preserve dual channel pairing?)


Thoughts on the ram issue?
