Hey, I have a family member not very computer literate quarantined in NYC with an older MacBook Pro 5,4 running 10.7 but they need to upgrade Zoom for work which requires Mavericks 10.9 minimum. This machine has the max 8GB RAM but the crummy 5400rpm Hitachi HDD in it. I doubt I can coach them to upgrade to an SSD over the phone despite the simplicity of the procedure. Anyhow, priority #1 is getting their OS upgraded and on EveryMac it looks like this thing can go up to El Capitan but am wondering if due to the age of the machine I should just stick with Mavericks? And to that end, software update doesn't show any updates so I'm also wondering what the procedure is for upgrading, where to download, do I need to pay, etc. Thx!
