Hey all. Running an early 2011 MacBook Pro with OS X. It's an upstanding machine, or has been until today.

First, a little background: two nights ago I initiated a "software update" before going to bed. I left the system plugged in so the new firmware update could be installed. MacBook was in tip top shape until the following night. As I was shutting down, I was prompted to install software updates. I thought this was odd, considering I had JUST updated the night before. Anyways, I let the updates install (very brief installation, just the white screen with the grey apple and a progress bar).

This morning I power up and my MacBook is acting positively batty. First of all the internet won't connect. It's connected to my wifi network but Safari states there is a connectivity issue. A simple restart seems to fix this.

I go on about my work in Keynote, putting together an important document for work. I try to start up iTunes and am prompted for my password. As soon as I enter my password, the computer completely freezes. I can't even move the cursor. After 2-3 minutes of a completely locked screen, I forced a restart by holding the power button.

Upon reloading, the computer automatically relaunches the applications I had been running and promptly freezes AGAIN! I can't move the cursor and the system is unresponsive to any keyboard entries (like the force quit extension). I am forced to manually restart once again.

This is the third start within a span of 30 minutes, mind you. My MacBook is seemingly fine now, though a little more punchy than usual. I've never had these types of issues, and I'm curious if it has something to do with the suspicious back to back updates, and what I can do to repair / fix this?
